On May 11, the Government of Saskatchewan, Sask Sport, SaskCulture and the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association signed a renewed lottery distribution agreement, continuing a longstanding and successful partnership. 

After winning a gold for Team Canada for the third time at the World Senior Curling Championships in South Korea, Team Sherry Anderson was named the Sask Sport April Athlete of the Month award. 

"Sport is more than a game because of its value in all aspects of life."

Stu Scheurwater remembers Dec. 21, 2017 vividly.

He was spending his lunch break with his parents, hanging out at their house in his hometown of Regina. A minor league umpire, Scheurwater was keeping busy in his offseason, helping out his father Doug with some work for his electrical contracting business. As an ump, Scheurwater was always advised to have a backup plan — his trade of choice was electrical, just like his father, and he was in the midst of becoming a journeyman electrician.

It was on that afternoon, surrounded by both his mom and dad, that he received a call from Joe Torre, long-time New York Yankees manager and now MLB executive vice president of baseball operations, and Mike McKendry, MLB vice president of umpire operations, that forever changed his life.



After 11 years in the minor leagues, Scheurwater was told he would become one of 76 full-time umpires in the MLB.

The mission of the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (SSHF) is to recognize sport excellence, preserve sport history, and educate the public about the role of sport in Saskatchewan’s cultural fabric.

Now it is time to recognize the contributions of one of our own and their work preserving, honouring and sharing the rich sporting history of Saskatchewan.

Sheila Kelly is leaving her post as Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame after 34 years leading the organization.

Sheila started at the Hall of Fame in 1989 and through the decades she has guided the SSHF through a great period of growth and stability. At the same she has become an industry leader in the sport heritage field in Canada and indeed across North America.
