National Volunteer Week
Sport, culture and recreation activities in Saskatchewan wouldn't exist without the dedication, support and hard work of the more than 330,000 volunteers across the province.

From individuals volunteering for the first time to those that have been volunteering their time for decades, Sask Sport would like to say thank you.

To assist in thanking volunteers during the week, Sask Sport has created assets including social media templates, email thank you notes and thank you cards for organizations to use. The assets can be found in the Resource Library on sasksport.ca.
Q&A with volunteer coach and board member Tannis Stang
Tannis Stang began volunteering in 2008 when she transitioned from being a wheelchair racing athlete to a coach, helping the next generation of athlete.

Fourteen years later, she’s still a coach with the Cyclones Athletics program and is working to bring more opportunities to athletes as a board member with the Saskatchewan Wheelchair Sports Association.

Just call him Mr. Rugby: Gary Harle an integral part of Regina rugby community for 40 years
Gary Harle isn’t one to willingly accept spotlight or praise — even when it’s well deserved. It’s a character trait that comes as no surprise to those who know and work with him at the Regina Rugby Union.

“He doesn’t take credit for anything, it’s somewhat annoying,” joked union President Josef Buttigieg. “He’s 110 per cent selfless.”.

Harle began demonstrating his altruistic nature to the rugby community in 1982, when he joined the senior men’s club, the Campion Grads, volunteering for fundraising bingos and other club duties.

Call for nominations: Sask Sport Board of Directors
Do you know a strong leader with a passion for sport and how it contributes to vibrant Saskatchewan communities?

Sask Sport is seeking nominations to its Board of Directors. Four three-year term positions are available. Elections will be held during Sask Sport’s upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The deadline for nominations is June 1.
The Sask Sport AGM will be held on June 16 at 1 p.m. Details have been sent out to members.

Saskatchewan's newest millionaire
When Regina resident Dale McEwen checked his LOTTO MAX ticket for the April 1 draw, he ruined his family’s ski trip.

Nevertheless, there are probably no hard feelings; when he checked his ticket, he discovered he was about to bring home a staggering $70 million jackpot – the largest win ever in the Western Canada lottery region.

“Ski trip ruined!” he laughed while claiming the prize earlier this month. “Basically, all we’ve been doing since we found out is figuring out what we will do now.”

McEwen and his family were driving west through Alberta on their way to B.C. when they stopped at South Country Co-op Gas Bar at 7 East 3rd Avenue in Dunmore, Alta., on April 1, where McEwen picked up his ticket for the LOTTO MAX draw that night.

While waiting to go for dinner the night after the draw, McEwen thought “I might as well check my tickets.”

When the Lotto Spot! app told him he was about to be $70 million richer, he couldn’t believe his eyes. He immediately shared the news with his partner.

Member tip: Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute survey results
The Canadian Fitness and Lifestyle Research Institute (CFLRI) conducted a survey in 2020 and 2021 called the Impact of COVID-19 on Physical Activity and Sport survey. In comparison to typical levels of physical activity prior to COVID-19 (prior to March 2020), adults in this survey were asked ratings of change in their level of physical activity in various key locations.
