Laura Ross has been named the Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport. She replaces Gene Makowsky, who was named Minister of Advanced Education during last week's provincial cabinet shuffle.

"I want to thank Minister Makowsky for his support and advocacy for the Sask Lotteries system, and his commitment to Saskatchewan's amateur sport system," Sask Sport Board Chair Angella Pinay said. "We look forward to working with Minister Ross as she takes on this new role, and continuing the great relationship with the team at the Ministry."

On Tuesday, Nov. 17, the provincial government announced additional measures to fight COVID-19, including consultations with the amateur sport, hospitality and workshop sectors to come up with guidelines to allow these activities to take place more safely.

On Wednesday, members of the Business Response Team met with Sask Sport's membership to begin the consultation. Sask Sport will compile the comments and forward them to the BRT by Friday, Nov. 20. A decision regarding guidelines for the sport sector is expected next week.

Saskatchewan athletes between the ages of 14-25 are encouraged to challenge themselves and compete against athletes from across the country by participating in this year's virtual RBC Training Ground qualifying.

Athletes are required to submit videos completing tests in strength, power, speed and endurance by Dec. 1.

Canadian Sport Centre Saskatchewan and the Sport Medicine & Science Council of Saskatchewan have additional sport service prizes for Saskatchewan's top three finishers (male and female) and the top three training groups (based on participation percentage).

Athletes - 1st: $500; 2nd: $250; 3rd: $150

The five-part Bison Transport LeadHERship Series brings together inspirational leaders from all areas of sport to tell their personal and professional stories, offer valuable advice and guidance, and share some practical tips that participants can use on and off the field.

The first webinar of the series, Female Coaches Path to Success, is scheduled for Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. (Sask time). This session will feature University of Manitoba women's soccer head coach Vanessa Martinez Lagunas and assistant strength and conditioning coach Bruna Mavignier as they discuss their quest to become High Performance coaches and highlight why sport needs more female role models. 

While many organizations were already moving from a paper waiver to an electronic waiver, the COVID-19 pandemic has sped up that transition.

With this in mind, Sport Law & Strategy Group has created a document that answers questions surrounding the role and enforceability of electronic waivers.

The nomination criteria and applications for the 2020 Saskatchewan Sport Awards will be available on sasksport.ca on Nov. 30. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 20.

For 2020, four awards will be presented for coach dedication as well as six for volunteer dedication. Given the restrictions COVID-19 has placed on sport participation this past year, there will be no coach, athlete or team of the year awards presented.
