Nominate Now — Excellence Awards
Do you know an athlete, coach or team who excelled in 2021? Then submit them for the 2021 Saskatchewan Sport Awards.

Nominations for the Excellence Awards are due Monday, Dec. 20 at 11:59 p.m. and include the following categories:
  • Athlete of the Year - Male/Female
  • Youth Athlete of the Year - Male/Female
  • Coach of the Year
  • Team of the Year

Sask Sport members, sport community groups, media or the general public are all eligible to submit nominations.

The 2021 Saskatchewan Sport Awards gala will be celebrated on Jan. 27, 2022.
Q & A with Dream Broker Laura Dyck...
"The best part about being a Dream Broker is the connections with the students and families."

For over a decade, Laura Dyck has been helping Saskatchewan youth pursue interests in sport, culture and recreation programming as a Dream Broker.

Dyck got involved with Dream Brokers after working alongside the program when she was a youth worker at Saskatoon’s White Buffalo Youth Lodge. She’s now in her 11th year as a Dream Broker, operating out of St. Frances Cree Bilingual School.

Saskatchewan Cycling Association receives national award

For the first time in the organization's history, the Saskatchewan Cycling Association was presented with the Torchy Peden Award for Provincial Association of the Year by Cycling Canada.

In a media release, Cycling Canada said Saskatchewan "took tremendous initiatives throughout the year to help development riders continue to progress in their respective disciplines. The Saskatchewan Cycling Association kicked off the year by organizing the Canadian Junior Virtual Racing Series on the RGT platform and went on to host track, road and BMX development camps in collaboration with Cycling BC, Cycling Canada and 94Forward, as well as several National Team athletes."

Nominate an athlete or builder for Canada's Sports Hall of Fame 2022 class
Almost 700 Canadian athletes and builders have been inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and been recipients of the Order of Sport — Canada's highest sporting honour.

Most recently, Saskatchewan's Diane Jones Konihowski and Sheldon Kennedy were a part of the 2020-21 class, but there have been several Saskatchewan inductees including Colette Bourgonje, Sandra Schmirler and more.

If you know an athlete or builder who you think should receive this top honour and a spot in the Hall of Fame in 2022, you have until Jan. 15, 2022 to nominate them.
Language Matters: Making Sport More Inclusive for Adaptive Athletes
Canadian Sport Centre Saskatchewan (CSCS) will be hosting a virtual interactive panel Language Matters: Making Sport More Inclusive for Adaptive Athletes on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.

Featuring Paralympians Nik Goncin, Ashely Hay and Shelby Newkirk, the panel will discussion the importance of using language in sport that reflects an inclusive environment for adaptive athletes. The panelists will share personal stories, discuss how all areas of sport can improve when it comes to inclusivity and offer a Q & A session.
Meet Saskatchewan's newest millionaires
Saskatoon's Brian Taylor and Marilyn Longman are the province's newest millionaires.

Taylor won WESTERN 649's top prize of $2 million on the Nov. 3 draw, while Longman won the LOTTO 6/49 Guaranteed Prize Draw of $1 million a week later on Nov. 10.

Member tip: Saskatchewan Violence Prevention Week
Saskatchewan Violence Prevention Week runs Nov. 28 to Dec. 4. This year’s theme is ‘Reach Out’.

The campaign creates an opportunity to remind your membership that they can use the Sask Sport Resource Line to reach out regarding possible bullying, abuse, harassment, discrimination or hazing.

The Sask Sport Resource Line provides information, bilingual support, resources and referrals for sport. It is a confidential and anonymous resource operating 365 days of the year from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is intended to assist callers in determining the most appropriate course of action to take.

Additionally, the Sask Sport Resource Line staff is qualified to handle calls regarding child and youth maltreatment (national/provincial child and youth protection laws) and organization-specific risk management and dispute resolution models.
