There's still time to get in your nominations for the 2021 Saskatchewan Sport Awards Recognition Awards, due Monday, Nov. 1 at 11:59 p.m.
There are three categories for which individuals can be nominated for a Recognition Award:
- Coach Dedication
- Volunteer Dedication
- Inspire Through Sport
Nominations for the Excellence Awards are due Monday, Dec. 20 at 11:59 p.m. and include the following categories:
- Athlete of the Year - Male/Female
- Youth Athlete of the Year - Male/Female
- Coach of the Year
- Team of the Year
Sask Sport members, sport community groups, media or the general public are all eligible to submit nominations.
The 2021 Saskatchewan Sport Awards gala will be celebrated on Jan. 27, 2022.

Sask Sport sponsoring 100 registrations for Fast & Female Virtual Summit Series |
|
Sask Sport is proud to sponsor 100 registrants for the Fast & Female Virtual Summit. The virtual series is scheduled to run every Saturday from Nov. 13 to Dec. 11.
The sessions are focused on physical activity and registrants will hear from Fast & Female's REAL (Relatable, Empowering, Active Leaders) Role Models, participate in interactive workshops, and more!
Virtual Summit Series Schedule
- Saturday, November 13: Welcome sessions with your group!
- Saturday, November 20: Workshop #1 - TBD
- Saturday, November 27: Workshop #2 - TBD
- Saturday, December 4: Workshop #3 - TBD
- Saturday, December 11: Physical activity and closing session
Each session will be between 1.5 - 2 hours long and include some type of physical activity! Sessions will start at 11 a.m. SK time.

Saskatchewan connections earn call to the Hall |
|
Two prominent figures in Saskatchewan sport are among the newest members of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, following their induction on Oct. 3.
Three-time Olympic pentathlete Diane Jones Konihowski and former NHL player and Respect Group Co-Founder Sheldon Kennedy are two of the 11 inductees in the Hall’s 2021 class.
While the pair of former athletes are known for their achievements in their respective sports, it’s perhaps what they’ve done as figures around sport that they are being recognized for.
Thanks to a recent change from the Hall, there is now a focus on honouring those who create social change within sport.

The 2023 Canada Winter Games are scheduled from February 18 to March 5, 2023 in Prince Edward Island and opportunities for Mission Staff and Apprentice Coaches are now open. |

Mission Staff Applications
The Saskatchewan Games Council is now inviting applications for mission staff to support Team Sask at these Games.
If you have a passion for sport, good leadership and organizational skills, and are proud to wear the green and white, then complete the online application.

Women in Coaching Canada Games Apprenticeship Program - Expression of Interest
The Women in Coaching Canada Games Apprenticeship Program is a partnership between the Provincial/Territorial Coaching Representatives (PTCRs), the Canada Games Council (CGC), and the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC). This program provides the opportunity for each province and territory to send two women coaches to the Canada Games in apprenticeship roles.
The purpose of the Canada Games Apprenticeship Program is to provide women coaches with a practical and integrated major national multi-sport games experience. Selected coaches have direct involvement in preparation and competition and receive support from an identified mentor coach throughout the duration of the program.

Clarke earning her stripes in world of hockey |

"I’m so grateful to be opening doors and bringing down barriers that are going to allow other females opportunities in the future and allow them the opportunity to see it and know they can work toward it."
Alex Clarke has an extensive hockey background, including a four-year NCAA career at the College of St. Scholastica and three seasons with the Weyburn Gold Wings (U18 AAA).

Knowing she wanted to stay involved in the game, a quick conversation in the fall of 2015 with Ryan Lundquist, the then manager of officiating with Sask Hockey, led her to where she is today.
After receiving officiating assignments at various levels across Saskatchewan hockey for six years, in the last couple of months Clarke has climbed the ranks in a big way. This August, she officiated at her first IIHF World Women’s Hockey Championship in Calgary, became the first female to officiate a Western Hockey League (WHL) game and was recently announced as one of10 females to officiate in the American Hockey League (AHL) during the 2021-22 season.
Safe to say, her post-playing career has turned out alright.

2022 Saskatchewan Winter Games Call for Volunteers |
|
The 2022 Saskatchewan Winter Games, scheduled for Feb. 20-26 in Regina, is looking for 1,000+ volunteers to help work the event and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Games.
Volunteers are required for the following areas:

- Ceremonies and culture
- Food services
- Logistics and IT
- Marketing and communications

- Medical services
- Safety and security
- Sport events
- Venues
- Volunteer coordination

Sport Medicine & Science Council workshops |
|
Saskatchewan’s seven sport districts are partnering with the Sport Medicine and Science Council of Saskatchewan to offer a pair of free mental performance workshops in November.
Wednesday, Nov. 3: Goals
This a 60-minute workshop educating on goal setting, setting realistic short- and long-term goals and monitoring goals.
Wednesday, Nov. 17: Routines
This is a 60-minute workshop on how to use routines and practices effectively.
Both workshops will be facilitated by Mental Performance Trainer Lisa Hoffart.
Workshops will run from 12:00-1:00 p.m. or 7:00-8:00 p.m. with time for a Q & A session. Registration is required 48 hours prior to the event.

Game On Leadership Program |
|
Canadian Women & Sport is looking for 15 sport and physical activity organizations across Canada to participate in the Game On program. Game On combines training for coaches on the essentials of girl-centred sport with a turnkey leadership development program that the coaches implement with the girls they lead.
Coaches will receive training on the program, then deliver it either virtually or in-person to girls in their club aged 14-18. Successful organizations will receive professional development resources, financial support ($1000 honourarium), networking opportunities, and more!
Applications are open until Nov. 5, 2021.

Member tip - ē-nīso pimohtēyahk: Walking Forward Together
|
|
Prairie Rivers Reconciliation Committee will be presenting ē-nīso pimohtēyahk: Walking Forward Together, a free virtual educational gathering Nov. 7-10.
The opening event, which will include multiple performances, will take place on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m .and then be followed with sessions Nov. 8-10 from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. daily.
