Sask Sport is seeking nominations to its Board of Directors. Four three-year term positions are available.

Tony Cote First Nation Winter Games begin Friday | |

The Tony Cote First Nation Winter Games are set to get underway Friday in Saskatoon, as James Smith Cree Nation plays host to the Games.
The Games run from April 7-13, with badminton, basketball, curling, hockey, table tennis, volleyball and traditional hand games.

Celebrate volunteers April 16-23 | |

Sport, culture and recreation activities in Saskatchewan wouldn't exist without the dedication, support and hard work of the more than 330,000 volunteers across the province.
From individuals volunteering for the first time to those that have been volunteering their time for decades, Sask Sport would like to say thank you.
During Volunteer Week, April 16-23, follow Sask Sport's website and social media channels as we celebrate the volunteers who help make our programs so great.
To assist in thanking volunteers during the week, Sask Sport has created assets including social media templates, email thank you notes and thank you cards for organizations to use. The assets can be found in the Resource Library on sasksport.ca.

Nine-year old archer Ember Frigon setting sights high | |

After attending the world’s largest indoor archery tournament with more than 4,000 competitors, nine-year-old Ember Frigon has her sights set on achieving even more in the sport.
In February, Frigon competed at “The Vegas Shoot”, placing 13th out of 39 entrants in the 11-and-under age category.
“It was very crazy going from shooting in a small basement to that,” said Frigon, who was the only Canadian female in the Compound Cub youth event. “It was really fun.”

Raymond Fox making an impact on and off the pitch | |

Raymond Fox is heading west to play soccer this summer.
The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men’s soccer keeper and North Battleford product recently signed with the newly formed Nautsa’mawt FC in League1 BC, an adult open age pro-am soccer league established in 2021.
“It’s a chance to play at the highest level of soccer in Canada that’s not fully professional,” said Fox, a member of the Sweetgrass First Nation. “The development opportunity for myself personally is really huge and a chance for me to grow as a soccer player.

SJHL Goals for KidSport with SaskEnergy | | |

|
Goals for KidSport is a partnership between SaskEnergy, KidSport and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) where $20 per home goal is donated to KidSport to a max of $20,000.
The season wrapped up on Feb. 21 with the 1000th goal being scored by Carson Dobson of the Nipawin Hawks and the Battlefords North Stars winning the KidSport Cup for most home goals scored.

Congratulations to Donna Schmidt on her retirement | |
Sask Sport wishes to congratulate Donna Schmidt on her retirement after 37 years with the organization.
Donna started with Sask Sport in 1986 as a clerk/typist. In 1990, she became the executive secretary, before moving to the role of executive assistant in 1995, where she remained for the rest of her career.
Donna treated everyone with the utmost respect and was a true professional, continuously going above and beyond what was expected from her in the role.
She always made others feel welcome and appreciated, particularly the volunteers who she would interact with on a daily basis.

When helping an athlete recover from injury, it is common for those in supporting roles (such as, coaches, practitioners or parents and guardians) to separate the needs of the injured athlete from the larger team. This makes sense, considering the athlete is dealing with the physical, emotional and psychological effects of rehabilitation. However, it is important for those in supporting roles not to overlook the impact an injured athlete’s absence from training and competition can have on both the individual, and the functioning and performance of their team.
This Sport Information Resource Centre blog explains how viewing an athlete’s injury recovery from a group dynamics perspective can help the injured individual feel supported and connected to their team during rehabilitation, while also helping the broader team maintain performance.
