National Coaches Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the over 19,000 coaches in Saskatchewan who help create opportunities for participation in sport by saying 'Thanks Coach'.
Follow the Sask Sport and Coaches Association of Saskatchewan websites and social media throughout the week as we highlight some local coaches making a difference in communities across the province.

To celebrate Coaches Week, Prairie Central District will be offering a virtual lunch with athlete, coach, entrepreneur and mom Paige Crozon on Tuesday, Sept. 21 from 12-1 p.m.

A Concussion Story: Lessons for concussion management |
|
Sask Sport, the Sport Medicine and Science Council of Saskatchewan and the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport have partnered to present A Concussion Story: Lessons for Concussion Management.
The 60-minute webinar on concussion management and return to play will feature an expert sport medicine panel and a former elite athlete who will share her story about dealing with concussion and the related challenges. The webinar is geared toward athletes, coaches, parents and sports medicine practitioners.
Coaches who are maintaining their NCCP Training or NCCP Certified status will receive one NCCP Development (PD) Point upon completing the webinar.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.

Nominations open for 2022 Saskatchewan Winter Games torchbearers |
|
Nominate an individual who you believe embodies the core characteristics of the relay: celebration, community, participation, and pride. The Saskatchewan Winter Games Torch Relay will take place on Feb. 20, 2022 prior to the opening ceremonies.
The nominee may be a person that has excelled athletically or personally, a positive role model who impacts the lives of those around them. They may be someone who has enhanced the fabric of your community, embodies the spirit of volunteerism, or is a hometown hero. Nominations are due Sept. 30, 2021.

"Sport has given me so much confidence, it's so great for my mental health and I've met so many friends through it that I can't imagine someone not having that because it's really made me a different person in a really good way."
Thanks to the efforts of seventeen-year-old Kaia Thauberger, Lumsden and the surrounding area is set to become the 41st KidSport chapter in Saskatchewan.
Thauberger believes that everyone should have access to sport, which led her to host a Golf-a-Thon called Rounds for Ralph in honour of her later grandfather that raised $12,700 to start the KidSport chapter.

Saskatchewan Coaching Academy back for fall session
The Saskatchewan Coaching Academy offers coaches the opportunity to complete all nine Competition-Development National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) modules over three weekends: Oct. 1-3, Nov. 5-7 and Dec. 3-5. The fall session will remain online.
Coaches must be certified Competition-Introduction (or the equivalent) and have a minimum of three years coaching experience, have completed the Make Ethical Decisions workshop and the Respect in Sport course before registering for the Academy.

Aboriginal Coaching Modules
CAS will be offering the three-part Aboriginal Coaching Modules in person on Nov. 16 in Regina.
The ACM is a professional development training tool for all coaches, whether Aboriginal or non-Aboriginal, who coach Aboriginal athletes. Offered as a workshop through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), its content reflects the uniqueness of Indigenous cultures, values, and lifestyles and is rolled out in three modules:
- Holistic Approach to Coaching
- Dealing with Racism in Sport
- Individual and Community Health and Wellness

Available NCCP workshops through December
CAS has updated the NCCP workshops calendar with options from now until Dec. 12.
There are workshops for all levels of coaches as well as Core Training opportunities for Learning Facilitators and Coach Evaluators.

Order of Sport Awards has Sask. connections |
|
Diane Jones-Konihowski and Sheldon Kennedy, two athletes with Saskatchewan ties, will be officially inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday, Oct. 3 as part of the Order of Sport Awards.
Jones-Konihowski, who grew up in Saskatoon, was a competitor at multiple Olympic Games for in athletics, a member of the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame and the 2000 Olympic Canadian Chef de Mission.
Kennedy played in the Western Hockey League as with the Moose Jaw Warriors and the Swift Current Broncos before moving on to the NHL and co-founded Respect Group Inc.
This year's event will be virtual and open to Canadians across the country and attendance at the event is free, but a ticket must still be ordered.

Upcoming Para equestrian classifiers seminar |
|
Equestrian Canada has announced a Para equestrian classifiers seminar for Nov. 5-6 in Warman who wish to become EC National Classifiers. Registration priority will be given to physiotherapists and medical physicians.
Key components of the seminar will include:
- An overview of the classification process and classification profiles
- Information on neuromuscular disorders and classification of the visually impaired
- Details on the rules and usage of adaptive aids
- Opportunities to practice classification and gain hands-on experience
Registration deadline is Oct. 1.
