Paige Crozon capped off not only an incredible year – but phenomenal month – with yet another first-place finish with her basketball team at the FIBA 3x3 Women’s World Series Championship earning her the Sask Sport Athlete of the Month for September.
Crozon and Team Canada finished in first place at the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series 2022 final in Constanta, Romania from Sept. 17-18. The Humboldt product finished the tournament with 23 points and 16 rebounds in five games, putting her seventh in scoring overall. She also ranked third in player value with 30, behind her teammates Michelle and Katherine Plouffe. Canada went undefeated, winning all five games they played during the event.

Saskatchewan Sport Awards - Nominations for Recognition Awards due Nov. 1 | |

Mark your calendars! The Saskatchewan Sport Awards are back – and in person – set to be held Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. at TCU Place in Saskatoon. And there’s still time to nominate!
The annual awards program celebrates the achievements and dedication of individuals in Saskatchewan’s amateur sport community in 2022. Six Excellence Awards will be handed out, including Male and Female Athlete of the Year, as well as seven Recognition Awards for deserving recipients who show dedication to volunteer, coaching and inspire through sport.
Nominations for Recognition Awards are due Nov. 1 at 11:59 p.m. and Excellence Awards are due Dec. 20 at 11:59 p.m.
And this year – there will be a celebrity guest emcee which will be announced in the coming days!

Bison Transport Sport LeadHERship Series | |

The Bison Transport Sport LeadHERship Series, hosted by two-time Olympic speed skater and host/analyst at CBC, Anastasia Bucsis, is a free five-part online series and professional development opportunity designed for coaches, administrators, community leaders, and volunteers of all genders, from all sports.
The first session’s panel on Oct. 13 will discuss how officiating is a great way to stay involved in sport beyond playing and coaching. It will also dive into how to become an official, why it’s important to build a network of women in sport and how everyone can be advocates for female officials.

Sask Sport is partnering with Saskatchewan’s seven Sport, Culture and Recreation districts to offer free virtual Women and Leadership workshops, covering unique topics, throughout October, November and December 2022. All workshops begin at 7 p.m.

Abuse-Free Sport Webinar Series scheduled for Oct. 26 | |

Education and prevention efforts are without a doubt, the cornerstone of curbing abuse and harassment in sport. Abuse-Free Sport plans to provide access to a wide range of resources.
During part three of the Abuse-Free Sport Webinar Series, there will be discussion on the role of education and prevention in advancing safe sport in Canada through different initiatives such as the Education Accreditation Program and the Research Grant Program.
The goal is to further the knowledge of safe sport and contribute to safe, positive and enriching sport experiences for all participants - no matter the sport, the level, or the role.
The virtual session will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.

Spotlight Grant now accepting applications | |

Canadian Women & Sport’s Spotlight Grant aims to shine a light on girls, women and gender-diverse individuals who typically don’t get the access, support, or funding they need to fully participate in sport and physical activity.
The Spotlight Grant is for community sport and physical activity organizations who are working to remove barriers and expand opportunities for girls, women, and gender-diverse participants from the following communities:
- 2SLGBTQIA+
- Black
- Indigenous, First Nations, Inuit, Métis, other
- Low-income
- Persons with a disability
- Newcomers (in Canada 5 years or less)
- Racialized
To be eligible for the Spotlight Grant, a minimum of 80% of participants in the initiative must identify with or belong to the communities listed above.
Applications close Mon., Nov. 14 at 10 p.m.

Saskatchewan's newest millionaire | |
|
James Smith Cree Nation’s Rollins Head is Saskatchewan's newest millionaire after bringing home one of the MAXMILLIONS prizes awarded for the Sept. 23 LOTTO MAX draw.
Head purchased his ticket on the afternoon of the draw from Prairie North Co-op at 408 Saskatchewan Ave. E in Melfort. He won by matching all seven numbers for one of the winning MAXMILLIONS draws - 1, 10, 18, 19, 27, 42, and 50.
The Monday after the draw Head went into town, scanning his ticket using the self-checker at a local store. He was shocked by what he saw.
"I didn't believe it! I thought it was a mistake," Head recalled as he claimed his prize. He scanned his ticket an additional two times to make sure what he was seeing was true.
Still in disbelief, Head went to another nearby store, where he asked the cashier to check his ticket on their terminal. When they did, the terminal froze up, confirming he had won.

Member tip: How you communicate affects if you're viewed as inclusive | |

To mark World Inclusion Day on Oct. 10, the Sport Information Resource Centre focused on information about inclusive communications in sport.
The blog post emphasizes why sport administrators, sport organizations and coaches should improve how inclusive they are, specifically in all the ways they communicate. It also highlights ways to check communications to make everyone in their audiences feel included, respected, accepted and valued.
Inclusivity has nothing to do with political correctness. Everyone has the right to be communicated with in a respectful, accurate and equitable way, rather than being “othered,” made to feel inferior, demeaned, overlooked or excluded.
