Another Canada Games is in the books.

Team Saskatchewan wrapped up its Canada Games experience on August 21 in the Niagara region of Ontario. In total, 32 medals were awarded to Team Saskatchewan — good for seventh in the medal standings. Of those 32, three were gold.

Of those gold medals, the first was captured by Savannah Sutherland in the female 400-metre hurdles, while Jasmine Fehr finished first in the female 5,000-m race and Saskatchewan topped Alberta 3-1 in the male volleyball final.

Saskatoon’s Logan Reider was named Saskatchewan’s flag bearer for the Closing Ceremony, after she led the female basketball team to a silver medal and female volleyball team to a fourth-place finish.

“Logan embodies all the characteristics of a flag bearer, and we are proud to have her lead Team Sask into the Closing Ceremony,” said Mark Bracken, Team Saskatchewan’s Chef de Mission.

An upcoming webinar will help non-profits and charities in Saskatchewan better understand existing GST and PST rules.

Representatives from Virtus Group will be on-hand to discuss how sales tax will be applied to some admissions, entertainment and recreation activities effective Oct. 1, as well as the specific exemptions announced on Aug. 23.

Time permitting, this session will include a Q&A period.

Many sports are beginning to offer adaptive sport programming for people with disabilities. However, the equipment required to offer the adaptive sports and the assistance needed to develop these programs can sometimes create barriers due to cost.

To help address this issue, Sask Sport administers two Adaptive Sport Grants utilizing financial contributions from the Sask Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation. The Adaptive Sport Equipment Grant assists in removing the barriers associated with the cost of purchasing specialized adapted equipment, while the Adaptive Sport Club Development Grant is used to provide financial assistance to support new adaptive sport clubs and developmental adaptive sport programming in communities or the expansion of existing sport programs for people with disabilities.

Each sport and program uses these grants differently to provide their members with the best opportunities to participate. Read how three Provincial Sport Organizations utilized the grants at sasksport.ca.

The next Adaptive Sport Grant deadline is October 1.

Do you know an athlete, coach or team in 2022 who achieved success? How about a coach or volunteer who should be recognized for their dedication? Or an individual who has inspired others through sport?



If so, then consider nominating them for the 2022 Saskatchewan Sport Awards.

The event celebrates the outstanding achievements of individuals in the province's amateur sport community with multiple awards handed out yearly in two categories.

Nomination forms are accepted year-round for all categories. To be considered for the current awards cycle, nominations must be received by 11:59 p.m. November 1 for Recognition Awards categories and 11:59 p.m. on December 20 annually for Excellence Awards. All nominations received after these dates will be held for the next awards cycle.

Sask Sport members, sport community groups, media or the general public are all eligible to submit nominations.

Fast and Female is offering two free Champ Chat sessions in Saskatoon for girls aged 10-14 in partnership with Sask Sport, the City of Saskatoon and the Canadian Sport Centre Saskatchewan.

A national survey on equity, diversity and inclusion practices in Canada’s nonprofit sector is currently being conducted by Imagine Canada and several partner organizations including Saskatchewan Nonprofit Partnership.

All Canadian charities and nonprofits are invited to participate in this important survey.

The results will be made available free of charge later this year and can be used to help organizations like yours set goals, and measure and track your progress.

The Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC) will be hosting a five-part Abuse-Free Sport webinar series beginning with Part 1 Opening Conversation with the Commissioner on Thursday, September 15.

The webinar, which will be presented bilingually, is open to all but the this conversation will be geared toward members of the national sport community (athletes, coaches, administrators, staff members, volunteers, etc.) and registration is required.

During this first conversation of the Series, the Commissioner will invite dialogue and contribution from participants in relation to important aspects of the OSIC mandate. Also, participants will be invited to make suggestions regarding priority topics and questions to be addressed during webinars No. 2 and  No. 3 of the Abuse-Free Sport Webinar Series.
