Jordan Weeden joined the Saskatchewan Blind Sports Association (SBSA) Board of Directors in 2019 as the membership director and is now the organization’s Chair.

Prior to his involvement with the board, Weeden has been involved volunteering with the organization for a number of years in a variety of ways, whether it’s coaching goalball, helping out at different fundraisers or dressing up as the organization’s mascot, Rally the Raccoon.

A brief conversation turned into a lifetime of volunteering for Eric Honetschlager.

Years ago, when he was an all-star wrestler at the University of Regina, he had to look elsewhere to stay involved in sport after being injured.

“I got hurt and the coach had asked if I ever thought about coaching and I said ‘no,’” recalled Honetschlager. “And he goes, ‘well why don’t you?’”



After giving it some consideration, Honetschlager started coaching wrestling at F.W. Johnson Collegiate in Regina. Today, 33 years and numerous coaching and volunteer roles later, he’s still involved.

Saskatchewan's seven sport, culture and recreation districts are partnering with the Sport Medicine & Science Council of Saskatchewan to offer a workshop series.

The first workshop, "Sport Injury: Prevention and Care" is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. via Zoom. The workshop, which will be facilitated by Rhonda Shishkin, will focus on common injuries within sport and how to prevent them through warm up, cool down and stretching techniques, etc.

Quality sport, values-based sport and safe sport are three approaches to sport program delivery that are gaining traction and popularity at all levels of sport.

These approaches promote morals and principles that aim to fulfill basic human needs like belonging, safety, and confidence, which encourage healthy development and overall wellbeing for all sport participants.
