Domestic Violence

Dear CRC,

CRC is well-known for our intervention and support services such as counseling, food, and housing assistance. Fewer people are aware of Community Resource Center's many efforts to provide education and prevention in our neighborhoods. Our Domestic Violence (DV) department has a respected and robust education program, a model for other organizations and cities to follow.

In the last of our three focused newsletters, we cover a lot of heavy topics. Domestic violence is not an easy subject to lean into but I commend our volunteers for their willingness to learn and to advocate.

Please read on to learn a little bit more about DV, but also to see the ways we can all make a difference!

Warmly,

Sara Rosenbaum, CVA

CRC Volunteer Manager

How CRC is Addressing Domestic Violence: Intervention and Prevention/Education

CRC PROVIDES:

Intervention:

Our intervention goal is to provide safe shelter and resources to those requiring support in the following ways:

  • 24/7 Domestic Violence Hotline
  • Emergency Shelter - Carol's House
  • Transitional Housing
  • Case Management and Legal Advocacy
  • Therapeutic Children's Center
  • Rental Assistance
  • Housing First
  • Counseling

Education/Prevention:

Our prevention goal is to raise awareness about the harm caused by domestic violence and teach safe and healthy relationship skills to youth and adults in schools, community groups, and professional settings through:

  • 40-Hour Domestic Violence Advocate Training Course
  • 4-Hour Domestic Violence Advocate Training Course
  • CRC-hosted events such as the recent San Diego Healthy Relationships Teen Conference 2023
  • Workshops and presentations

"Domestic Violence is more common than people would like to think. When helping a friend, please listen and validate their feelings and be careful before giving advice. DV is very complex and every relationship is different. There are plenty of resources for help, so please reach out." Luis Canseco, DV Education and Prevention Manager

Volunteer of the Month

Congratulations to CRC's Volunteer of the Month: Randy Gorman!

From nominating staff Corrie McCoy:

Randy Gorman is a model volunteer and Board member of Community Resource Center. As Chair of the Facilities Committee, he has taken on and led projects, saving CRC staff time and resources. His passion for CRC’s purpose and mission is evident whenever he speaks about the work that we do in the community. His empathy for the clients we serve is felt and demonstrated in the contributions and efforts he makes.

Randy is constantly absorbing the now and the new of CRC, by meeting with staff outside Board and Committee hours and asking how he can be of service. Randy lends CRC an invaluable amount of time, effort and expertise needed to make facilities related decisions that improves the service space we provide to staff and clients.

Very recently, he has been instrumental in negotiating CRC's Capital Campaign and Carlsbad office expansion contracts. Thank you!
