Spotlight On: Domestic Violence

Dear CRC Volunteer,

CRC is well-known for our intervention and support services such as counseling, food, and housing assistance. Fewer people are aware of Community Resource Center's many efforts to provide education and prevention in our neighborhoods. Our Domestic Violence (DV) department has a respected and robust education program, a model for other organizations and cities to follow.

In this last of our three focused newsletters, we cover a lot of heavy topics. Domestic violence is not an easy subject to lean into, but I commend our volunteers for their willingness to learn and to advocate.

Please read on to *learn a little bit more about DV, but also to read about Hunger Action Month and the many ways volunteers stepped up this September!

Warmly,

Sara Rosenbaum, CVA

CRC Volunteer Manager

How CRC is Addressing Domestic Violence: Intervention and Prevention/Education

Intervention

Our goal is to provide safe shelter and comprehensive support to those seeking help. CRC services include:

  • 24/7 Domestic Violence Hotline (877-633-1112)
  • Emergency Shelter – Carol’s House for survivors and their children
  • Transitional Housing to support long-term stability
  • Case Management offering individualized support and resources
  • Legal Advocacy to help survivors navigate the justice system
  • Therapeutic Children’s Center providing care and healing for children impacted by domestic violence
  • Housing Assistance & Rental Assistance to secure and maintain safe homes
  • Counseling Services (individual, family, and group) with trauma-informed care

Education & Prevention

CRC also works to prevent violence by raising awareness and teaching safe, healthy relationship skills through:

  • 40-Hour Domestic Violence Advocate Training Course
  • Shorter Advocate & Awareness Workshops for schools, community groups, and professionals
  • CRC-hosted events such as the San Diego Healthy Relationships Teen Conference
  • Community education programs delivering prevention resources to youth, schools, and neighborhoods
  • In 2024, CRC reached thousands of individuals through shelter, housing, counseling, and education — building safer, healthier communities together.

2024 Impact Highlights

  • 3,200+ hotline calls answered through our 24/7 Domestic Violence Hotline
  • 8,500+ nights of emergency shelter provided to survivors and their children
  • 140+ survivors and families supported through transitional and permanent housing programs
  • 400+ individuals received counseling services
  • 5,000+ community members reached through prevention workshops and events

"Domestic Violence is more common than people would like to think. When helping a friend, please listen and validate their feelings and be careful before giving advice. DV is very complex and every relationship is different. There are plenty of resources for help, so please reach out." Luis Canseco, DV Education and Prevention Manager
