Capturing the Work of the Winooski School District's Antiracism Steering Committee

Three years ago, the Winooski School District began partnering with UP for Learning to support their community as they worked to implement the demands created by the Winooski Students for Antiracism (WSA). These demands include establishing a Racial Truth and Reconciliation Commission, hiring and retaining faculty of color, establishing an Ethnic Studies curriculum, performing an equity audit, holding workshops on student civil rights, and creating a multilingual mentorship program. The above video, filmed by Ned Castle (Frames to Life) in coordination with the RISE-VT (Restorative Approaches Implementation for School Equity in Vermont) project, captures scenes from the Antiracism Steering Committee's November meeting. It provides a glimpse of the complex and messy process of confronting systems that are resistant to change, as well as the passion and power of this multigenerational team.

Trailblazers, a student-driven e-magazine about the Education Transformation Movement, needs contributors!

For each new issue, the Trailblazers Production Team seeks out "Spotlight Learners" from around the world to share their unique voices on the topic of transforming education.

We intentionally try to not set a “theme” for each new magazine issue because we want the articles to be authentic; we want young learners to share whatever it is that they feel driven to talk about, not what someone else prompts them to talk about. We work individually with each learner throughout the writing process to amplify their voice while striving to create an issue that provides a diverse mix of commentary on the current education paradigm.
