Highlights Across Merriam

The snow arrived this week, but construction on the Trader Joe's continued moving along! Soon, residents, businesses, and visitors will be able to shop for their favorite TJ items (mine is the beloved cookie butter). Located on the northeast corner of Shawnee Mission Parkway and Antioch, this new neighborhood grocery store is slated to open in late 2026.

Drake Development was recently awarded the Economic Impact Award at the 2025 CREW Kansas City Excellence Awards for the Merriam Grand Station Development.

What began as the site of an aging Kmart is now a thriving mixed-use destination that brings new energy, housing, and opportunity to the heart of Merriam.


Merriam's 75th birthday was a huge success with hundreds of people gathering to enjoy birthday cake, ice cream, and tons of community activities! If you missed it, catch the recap here on Facebook.
