Message from the Mayor

Hello neighbors,

As we approach the close of 2024, I want to take a moment to reflect on a remarkable year for Blue Springs. Together, we’ve achieved milestones that have set the stage for an even brighter future in our City.

This summer, we proudly opened Blue Surf Bay Waterpark, offering residents and visitors a state-of-the-art aquatic facility that has quickly become a community favorite. In August, we celebrated a significant victory with the passage of the special election bond issue, ensuring vital road improvements will keep Blue Springs moving forward.

Our commitment to enhancing recreation continued with the addition of a new playground at Keystone Park, providing families with another safe and vibrant space to enjoy the outdoors. Meanwhile, the National Purple Heart Day dedication ceremony honored our heroes and reaffirmed our city's deep respect for those who have served our country.

Blue Springs was alive with celebration during the Red, White & Blue Springs Fourth of July event, which brought thousands of families together to commemorate our nation’s independence.

Over the summer, a citizen task force was created to prioritize the Downtown Master Plan. Projects include: a lumberyard development proposal with a mix of apartments/townhouses and retail shops for the land off Main Street, between 14th Street and the railroad tracks; new Main Street streetscape and signs; funding that would come from the voter-approved bond issue; and developing a design to turn Central Park off Walnut Street into a viable community gathering space.

This year also marked a significant step in caring for our four-legged residents. We’ve officially taken over the Animal Control program and formed an exciting partnership with Wild Souls to ensure the safety and well-being of animals in our community.

As we look ahead to 2025, there’s much to be excited about. You’ll see progress on road improvements funded by the bond issue, continued investment in parks and infrastructure, and more opportunities for us to connect and thrive as a community.

Thank you for making 2024 a year to remember. Your involvement, support and pride in Blue Springs make this city an incredible place to live, work and play. Here’s to a prosperous and exciting 2025!

Public Works Ready For Snow To Start Falling

Snow Removal Info

It’s December and time to start thinking about the fluffy, white stuff that will soon be falling from the sky. The Blue Springs Public Works Department maintains a 24-hour state of readiness from mid-November to mid-April for inclement weather. The personnel who work within the Streets Division become first responders for snow emergencies.

Last month, the team held a winter weather training to learn predetermined routes, turn-by-turn and equipment operation. The snowplow team is ready to go as soon as the snow starts falling to make sure streets are cleared.

If you have any questions regarding the plowing procedures, contact the Streets Division at 816-228-0195. For the Snow Removal Hotline, please call 816-228-0295.

Other distinguished guests at the time included councilmembers Craig Anderson, Evelyn Ericson, Sissy Reed, Steve Miller, Robert Daffer and Ron Fowler, who has served on the Blue Springs council for more than 30 years.
