Message from the Mayor

Hello neighbors,

On February 20, I will deliver my first State of the City address, reflecting on a year of remarkable achievements and looking ahead to an exciting future for Blue Springs. Here are just a few of the items we’ll touch upon:

Infrastructure & Public Works

Residents made it clear that street maintenance is a top priority, and thanks to voter approval in August, we secured $40 million for street and infrastructure improvements. This is in addition to the millions that are spent on street maintenance in the regular budget annually.

Public Safety & Animal Control

Our Police Department took over Animal Control, hiring five officers and upgrading the facility. We also partnered with Wild Souls Wildlife Rescue to provide dedicated wildlife care and education programs. In 2024, the department welcomed 14 new officers and nine civilian employees, along with implementing Live911 technology to enhance emergency response times. Community outreach programs like the Citizens Police Academy, National Night Out, and Girls on Fire continue to strengthen the bond between law enforcement and our residents.

Parks & Recreation

2024 was a landmark year for Parks & Recreation. Blue Surf Bay Waterpark opened to enthusiastic crowds and won the prestigious Leading Edge Award. Attendance at the newly named Carson Ross Community Recreation Complex soared, proving its value as a premier destination for families.

Events like the Red, White & Blue Springs Fourth of July celebration and Green Up the Blue brought our community together, showcasing the pride and volunteer spirit of Blue Springs. We also launched the North Pole Trail of Lights, creating a new holiday tradition for families to enjoy.

Downtown Development & Economic Growth

Momentum continues in downtown Blue Springs with the adoption of a new Downtown Master Plan and key redevelopment initiatives, including proposals for the lumberyard site, a Main Street streetscape project and transforming Central Park into a vibrant gathering space. Additionally, the purchase of the former Blue Springs Baptist Church opens the door for future revitalization.

Looking Ahead

With three council seats and amendments to the City’s Charter on the ballot in April, I encourage all residents to make their voices heard. The future of Blue Springs is bright, and together, we will continue building a city that honors its past, thrives in the present, and embraces the future.

Thank you for your support and commitment to making Blue Springs the best it can be!

Railroad Lake at Rotary Park to be Dredged

Last month, the dredging of Railroad Lake at Rotary Park began. This approximately six- to eight-week project will help to deepen the pond.

A year ago, Parks staff performed limited work to increase the depth around the lake edges but was unable to get the entire lake to the desired depth.

This year, a contractor has been hired with the goal of removing enough silt to have 6-8-foot depth throughout the entire lake. This will help restrict algae growth in the lake and improve the aesthetics of the lake. This dredging will remove silt and keep the lake in better shape for many years.
