Hello neighbors,
I’m thrilled to share a major update regarding our City’s Downtown Master Plan. On January 3, we finalized the purchase of the former First Baptist Church of Blue Springs property, located at the intersection of 15th and Main Streets in downtown Blue Springs.
This property has been identified as a prime area for redevelopment and is a key component of the Downtown Master Plan, adopted by the Blue Springs City Council in March 2024. Remarkably, the property has been on the market for more than 10 years, and we are excited about its potential.
While there are no immediate plans for the property’s use, the City is committed to strategically exploring opportunities for its reuse or redevelopment.
This acquisition represents a significant step in our ongoing efforts to grow, enhance and promote the vibrancy of downtown Blue Springs.
On a bittersweet note, I want to express my deepest gratitude to District 3 Councilmember Ron Fowler for his remarkable 32 years of service to the City of Blue Springs. Ron has been a dedicated leader and a steadfast advocate for our community, leaving an indelible mark on the city he has served so faithfully.
In November, Ron was elected to represent District 31 in the Missouri House of Representatives, a well-deserved opportunity to continue serving at the state level.
This January, he will head to Jefferson City to begin this new chapter of public service. Ron’s final City Council meeting was on Monday, January 6, marking the end of an extraordinary era in Blue Springs. On behalf of the city, I extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes as he embarks on this new journey. Thank you, Ron, for your dedication and leadership. You will always have a special place in the history of Blue Springs.
Finally, I want to welcome Nick Brummel as the new District 3 City Councilmember who will be filling Ron’s seat. Nick is a small business owner and has lived in Blue Springs for more than 10 years. He previously served as Chair of the Parks Commission and on the City Charter Review Commission. I look forward to working with him on continuing to make Blue Springs a great place to work and live.
