Work on Downtown Streetscape Begins in June

Work began June 1 on the Downtown Streetscape Project, a major investment designed to create a safer, more walkable and vibrant downtown district while advancing the community’s long-term Downtown Master Plan.

The project is part of the City’s broader downtown revitalization efforts focused on improving the streetscape, encouraging redevelopment, supporting local businesses and creating new opportunities for residents and visitors to gather and connect in Downtown Blue Springs.

Provide Feedback for Blue Springs Comprehensive Plan

The City of Blue Springs has launched a major community planning effort for a new citywide Comprehensive Plan that will shape the City for years to come, and we need your help. You have until the end of June to provide input on the future of Blue Springs.

The Plan will provide a roadmap for future growth in Blue Springs focusing on land use, transportation, housing, education, parks and trails, infrastructure, and economic development. The planning and public engagement process will be guided by the Planning Division along with the support of our partners at Olsson.

Fireworks

Who doesn’t love celebrating our nation’s birthday: cookouts, games, parties and of course, fireworks. Blue Springs residents should observe the days and hours fireworks are legally allowed to be discharged within City limits. The dates and times are July 1-3, 10 a.m.-11 p.m. and on July 4, 10 a.m.-Midnight.

Police Officers will also exercise increased street patrol and law enforcement measures during these times to make sure residents are complying with the regulations provisioned by the City’s Fireworks Ordinance. To report fireworks violations, call 816-228-0151 or Text-A-Tip; text BSPD plus your message, including the location of the violation to Crimes (274637).

MESSAGE FROM THE

MAYOR

Hello neighbors,

This summer marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our community as work officially begins on the Downtown Blue Springs Streetscape Project.

Downtown is more than just a collection of buildings and streets. It is a gathering place, a destination for local businesses, a home for community events and an important part of Blue Springs’ identity. As our city continues to grow, it is important that our downtown grows with it while still maintaining the character and charm residents value.

Over the next year, residents will begin seeing improvements designed to create an exciting, more attractive and more welcoming downtown experience for everyone. Planned upgrades include improvements to streets, sidewalks, landscaping, lighting and public spaces that will help support local businesses and encourage additional investment in the heart of our city.

We understand construction projects can temporarily create inconveniences, and we appreciate everyone’s patience throughout this process. Most importantly, we want residents to know that our downtown businesses will remain OPEN during construction. These local restaurants, shops and service providers are an important part of our community, and they need our continued support during the revitalization effort.

Throughout the project, the City will provide regular updates through social media, video updates, the City website and other communication channels so residents and businesses can stay informed about progress, timelines and traffic impacts.

This investment is about more than infrastructure. It is about creating a downtown that serves our community for generations to come, a place where families gather, businesses thrive and residents can continue making memories for years ahead.

Blue Springs has always been a city focused on progress while honoring the values that make our community special. I believe this project represents that vision, and I look forward to watching downtown continue to evolve into a destination our entire community can take pride in.

Thank you for your continued support of Blue Springs and the businesses that make our downtown unique.
