MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

Hello neighbors,

I want to share with you some exciting news about our City’s Strategic Plan. This plan will shape the future of Blue Springs for years to come, and reflects our shared commitment to thoughtful planning, community engagement, and the long-term, well-being of our city. Over the past several months, City Council, City staff, community leaders and residents have worked collaboratively to create the Strategic Plan, which will guide decisions, investments and priorities across all aspects of local government.

This engagement process has provided an opportunity to reflect on where we are today, define where we want to go and determine how we will get there. Through community surveys, pop-up events and interviews, your input has played a crucial role in helping create this plan.

This Strategic Plan is a roadmap for action. It will guide the work of our City Council and City departments as we move to better our City with purpose. I invite everybody in our community to stay involved as we implement this plan. Above all, this strategic plan reflects a commitment to our residents, responsible stewardship and building a future that honors the character of Blue Springs while embracing new possibilities.

Your voices and perspectives helped shape this plan and I want to sincerely thank you for moving us towards our shared vision of the future for Blue Springs.

Mayor Lievsay to Host Two

Facebook Live Town Hall Events

Mayor Chris Lievsay is inviting residents to join him for two upcoming Facebook Live Town Hall events this fall. These conversations are designed to keep our community informed and engaged on key priorities for the future of Blue Springs.

The first Town Hall will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15 and will focus on the City’s Strategic Plan. Mayor Lievsay will share updates on the plan’s goals, highlight progress made so far and discuss how the plan will guide growth and decision-making in the years ahead.

The second Town Hall is scheduled for 6 p.m., Thursday, November 13 and will center on the Downtown Revitalization Plan. This plan aims to reimagine and revitalize the heart of Blue Springs, making it a more vibrant, walkable and welcoming destination for residents and visitors.

Both events will be broadcast live on the City of Blue Springs Facebook page, giving residents an easy way to tune in, ask questions, and hear directly from Mayor Lievsay. You can also join us in person at the Howard L. Brown Public Safety Building at 1100 SW Smith Street to ask questions.

Know Your City Codes

The City of Blue Springs is providing a series of articles highlighting some of the most common Code Violations. From overgrown grass to improper parking, we'll break down each Code, why they matter and how you can help keep our community clean, safe and beautiful.

Street Numbers

Does the Amazon or DoorDash driver have trouble locating your house? Numbers must contrast with the background and be Arabic Font numerals at least four inches in height and one-half inch stroke.

The reasoning for this Code is to ensure efficient emergency response, postal delivery and general navigation within a community. It provides a standardized system for identifying specific locations, facilitating services like emergency services, package delivery and property identification. For more information, you can view the Code HERE.

Board of the Month -

Public Safety Citizens' Advisory Board

The Public Safety Citizens’ Advisory Board (PSCAB) is responsible for reviewing the Blue Springs Police Chief's proposed annual budget for the Police Department and making recommendations concerning the budget and expenditures to the Chief and City Administrator for consideration.

The Board also may provide oversight regarding expenditures that are derived from a dedicated public safety funding source and exclusively allocated for public safety operations, programs and services. The PSCAB makes recommendations regarding policies of the Police Department related to public information and public relations to the Mayor and City Council through the Police Chief and City Administrator. Meetings of the PSCAB are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.

The PSCAB is comprised of six resident members who serve two-year terms. Members must be residents of Blue Springs; best efforts will be made to appoint equal representation from each Council District. In addition to the six members, the PSCAB shall interview and recommend one student entering their senior year of high school to serve a one-year term as a non-voting member. All members are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. One Councilmember shall serve a one-year term as a non-voting liaison.

Preference will be given to graduates of the Blue Springs Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy or those with prior law enforcement experience.

Citizens who desire to serve on a city board or commission may apply by filling out the online Boards and Commissions Application. All meetings are open to the public.
