Downtown Streetscape Work Progresses

Phase 1 of the Downtown Streetscape project is now completed, and the crew has moved to Phase 2 between 12th and 11th Streets on Main.

In early August, the intersection at 12th and Main Streets were closed to make the jump across 12th Street as a part of Phase 1 of the project. From there, they started the Phase 2 waterline from 12th to 11th Streets. Vehicle access will be closed off from 11th and Main to 15th and Main while work continues on the waterline.

With regard to the Fall Fun Fest (September 18-20), pedestrian access will be maintained throughout downtown. The carnival will be in the First Baptist Church parking lot, while the parade route will be altered for this year.

Several Road

Projects Completed

This summer, road crews paved several major thoroughfares through the City of Blue Springs. These included:

  • Right turn lane from Adams Dairy Parkway to Duncan Road
  • Adams Dairy Parkway from 40 Hwy to I-70
  • RD Mize Road from Adams Dairy Parkway to 15th Street
  • Mock/Coronado from 7 Hwy to Adams Dairy Parkway
  • 15th Street from South Outer Road to 40 Hwy
  • South Outer Road from 7 Hwy to Woods Chapel Road
  • Woods Chapel Road from 40 Hwy to I-70
  • 19th Street from 40 Hwy to Moreland School Road

These improvements follow several roads already completed this year, including 52 lane miles completed in 2025. By the end of 2026, 162 lane miles, 27.7% of the City’s total lane miles, will have been improved.

No Kidding, Goats Invade Blue Springs

Sometimes the best solution to a growing problem comes on four legs.

For years, dense brush and invasive vegetation continued to spread throughout portions of Woods Chapel Park. While the Blue Springs Parks & Recreation Maintenance Team worked diligently to manage the overgrowth, the vegetation returned thicker each season, making it increasingly difficult to maintain.

After learning about targeted goat grazing and researching its effectiveness, the Parks Department partnered with Goats Gone Green LLC, a Missouri-based vegetation management company specializing in environmentally friendly brush removal.

The goats are now doing their work at Lake Remembrance.

MESSAGE FROM THE

MAYOR

Hello neighbors,

As we enter the fall months and cooler temperatures arrive, there’s no better time to get outside and enjoy everything Blue Springs parks have to offer. Our parks provide opportunities to stay active, connect with neighbors and spend quality time with family and friends while experiencing the natural beauty of our community.

The changing seasons bring some of the best opportunities to explore our park system. Whether you're taking a walk along a scenic trail, spending an afternoon at a neighborhood playground, attending a community event or simply enjoying the outdoors, our parks offer something for residents of all ages.

Our parks also serve as the backdrop for many of the events that bring Blue Springs together throughout the year. As we move into the fall season, residents can look forward to community favorites like Spooky Springs, while the holiday season will once again feature the North Pole Trail of Lights. These events create lasting memories and showcase the important role our parks play in strengthening community connections.

Thanks to the renewed Parks Sales Tax, the City continues to invest in improving and expanding recreational opportunities throughout Blue Springs. Recent enhancements have included a new playground at Rotary Park, trail improvements, athletic field upgrades and facility improvements that help ensure our parks remain safe, accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

As Blue Springs continues to grow, maintaining high-quality parks and recreational amenities remains a priority. These spaces contribute to the quality of life that makes our community such a great place to live, work and play.

I encourage you to take advantage of the beautiful late-summer and early-fall weather by visiting one of our parks, exploring a trail, attending an event or discovering a new favorite outdoor space. And when you do, remember the dedicated Parks and Recreation staff members who work year-round to keep our parks welcoming and enjoyable for all.
