When someone needs to spread the word about VSC, Derrick Schmidt hits the road. Derrick is currently focused on outreach to the Asian and AAPI communities to provide support as they cope with the increase of violence against the AAPI population. His efforts are part of VSC's Community Advocate Program that works to ensure that all communities in Montgomery County have access to VSC.
"My professional goal is to empower those whose birthplace is not the United States, but call our country home," he said. Prior to joining VSC, Derrick taught in China and earned an MA in international development from Brandeis. Derrick wears 3 hats for VSC: grant management specialist, client information support, and community advocate.
Outside of work, Derrick enjoys watching and playing soccer, hiking, traveling to PA Champion Tree locations, and finding tasty ways to enjoy vegetarianism.
