A beautiful small New England mill town, Naugatuck has a surprising history forged by pioneering geniuses of industry and fearless risk-takers. Naugatuck was destined to become an industrial community, with the abundance of waterpower from the Naugatuck River. 19th Century industrial wealth and visionary philanthrophy created a significant architectural legacy evident in this compact and walkable downtown.

Overview presentation at The Tuttle House
A majestic Queen Anne-style building prominently situated at the head of Church Street, The Tuttle House is a symbol of Naugatuck's Victorian-era prosperity, and home to the Naugatuck Historical Society. Our overview presentation will feature Mayor Pete Hess, who wakes up every morning ready to move forward with his vision of a smart growth-based approach to a vibrant downtown. The Naugatuck Historical Society and the Naugatuck Economic Development Corporation will share their approaches and commitment to partnerships that are at the heart of helping citizens understand how Naugatuck's history informs the present and affects the future, and how business retention and attraction and maintaining a strong manufacturing base in the 21st Century all contribute to development of a vibrant downtown. 

5:00 pm - Guided Walking Tour of Downtown Naugatuck
Led by Ron Pugliese of Naugatuck Economic Development Corporation, and Bridget Mariano of Naugatuck Historical Society (joined by other downtown rock stars along the way), we will be treated to sites and stories that highlight this compact and architecturally stunning downtown on the banks of the Naugatuck River.

Reception at Naugatuck Event Center
 
At the conclusion of our walking tour, we will arrive at the Naugatuck Event Center, the former General DataComm Building that has been repurposed into a destination for community and outside events and activities.


PARKING: there is on-street parking on Cedar and Church Streets, as well as the lot at the Naugatuck Train Station on Water Street.
