RTA’s Mobility Management Resource Day

An RTA rep will be at the Township Food Pantry on Tuesday, June 18th, from Noon until .until 3:00 p.m.

Accessible Metra, Pace and CTA buses and trains are easy to use and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) would love to show you how! It is important that older adults and people with disabilities stay informed about accessible public transportation options to get to appointments, maintain social connections, and enjoy independent travel!

Road Closings

Butterfield Road
Metra will be closing Butterfield Road to through traffic from Illinois Route 137 to Winchester Road. The closure will begin at 6 a.m. on Friday, June 7th and is scheduled to reopen the afternoon of Monday, June 10th. The closure is necessary to improve ride quality at the existing railroad crossing. This project will include track repairs and resurfacing.
Local traffic will be allowed from Illinois Route 137 south to Old Barn Circle and from Winchester Road north to Virginia Avenue/St. William Drive. The railroad crossing will be closed to all traffic.
Detour Route: IL Route 137/Peterson Road to US Route 45 to Winchester Road.

Midlothian Road
Metra will be closing Midlothian Road to through traffic from IL 137 to Peterson Road. The closure will begin at 6 a.m. on Friday, June 14 and is scheduled to reopen the afternoon of Monday, June 17. The closure is necessary to improve ride quality at the existing railroad crossing. This project will include track repairs and resurfacing.
Local traffic will be allowed from Peterson Road to the Prairie Crossing Metra Station parking lot.
Detour Route: IL 137 to US 45 to Peterson Road.

Biking in Lake County! Take the Survey…

The Lake County Division of Transportation is beginning a countywide Bike Path Wayfinding and Signage study. Ultimately, the goal is to help the public using the bike paths have a better understanding of where they are on the trails and make it easier to find connecting destinations. We want to hear from YOU about biking in Lake County.

Household Chemical Waste Event

APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED  for Household Chemical Waste Events located at our Gurnee Facility to ensure safety & efficiency. Collections are for residential waste only. No business waste will be accepted. All SWALCO HCW Collection Events are FREE for Illinois residents ONLY.

Items you can bring to a collection include: CFL bulbs, unwanted prescription, over-the-counter medicines and supplements (people and pet), household cleaners, gasoline, garden chemicals, pesticides, oil-based paints (NO LATEX) and varnishes, as well as other household chemicals. Farmer's Market is Open

Every Thursday beginning May 30 th  through October 17t h (NO MARKET ON JUNE 6th) from 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Cook Park in downtown Libertyville will be filled with new and returning favorite vendors bringing you the freshest bounty of the season. Enjoy a selection of farm fresh produce, artisan foodstuffs, fresh flowers and even pet treats. Take time to savor a freshly brewed cup of coffee or have breakfast in scenic Cook Park.  The annual watermelon cutting ceremony at 9:00 a.m. will officially “kick off the Market” for the season.

Concerts in the Plaza at Independence Grove
Music lovers, dance lovers, outdoor lovers, get ready for award-winning performers playing under the stars at the annual Concerts in the Plaza music series. Ride Lake County Central

This curb-to-curb Pace bus service travels East in Lake County – any destinations located in Libertyville, Fremont Shields Townships, Village of Libertyville, Village of Mundelein, , Vernon Hills Shopping Center, Metra Station (Lake Forest), Lake County Health Dept., Walmart Fountain Square, Grayslake Medical Offices, Doctors on Winchester Road, College of Lake County, Greenleaf Medical Offices. Call Pace at 1-800-201-6446 to register and schedule your rides.

RTA Reduced Fare Pass Applications
New Applicants--

Seniors 65 and over may apply for the RTA Pass at Libertyville Township. Taking the train downtown? This will save you money and it is free. It takes 3 to 4 weeks to receive the pass in the mail. Bring in a 2x2 inch photo and your Illinois driver's license.
The RTA Reduced Fare Permit allows older adults, age 65 and older, and qualified people with disabilities and Medicare recipients to ride all RTA fixed-route services (regularly scheduled CTA, Metra and Pace buses or trains in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will Counties) at a reduced fare.
