OSC proudly recognizes longtime Advisory Committee Member, founding participant, and Treasurer Greg Markus as he retires from his post at Rocky River Schools. Markus was recently honored for his nearly two decades of service at an OSC Business Network meeting, celebrating a career defined by collaboration, leadership, and lasting impact.

Markus was first invited to join the Advisory Committee by former Rocky River Superintendent, Dr. Dennis Allen during the committee’s early formation. Allen, now serving in his 17th year as Assistant Executive Director of OSC and Executive Director of GCSSA, reflected on Markus’ influence from the very beginning.

“Greg was one of the original voices at the table,” Allen said. “From day one, he brought thoughtful ideas, practical solutions, and a genuine commitment to improving opportunities for school districts. His leadership helped shape the direction of OSC in meaningful ways that still benefit our members today.”

Throughout his tenure, Markus played a key role in developing several of OSC’s most impactful programs while also serving as Treasurer, where he helped guide financial oversight and strategic planning. He was instrumental in launching the widely utilized Life Insurance program, the PRG separation pay plan, and numerous other initiatives designed to strengthen district operations and employee support.

“These programs weren’t just about benefits or policies,” Markus said. “They were about giving districts real tools they could use to support staff, plan responsibly, and remain financially strong. Serving as Treasurer gave me the opportunity to help ensure those programs were sustainable and effective.”

Beyond program development, Markus emphasized the value of the Advisory Committee itself, a space that brought school leaders together to collaborate and learn from one another.

“One of the greatest strengths of OSC has always been the committee,” Markus shared. “It created an environment where leaders could connect, reflect on shared challenges, and work together toward better solutions. That sense of collaboration is what makes OSC truly special.”

Allen echoed those sentiments, highlighting Markus’ ability to unite people around common goals.

“Greg consistently encouraged open dialogue and teamwork,” Allen said. “He helped build a culture where members felt heard and supported. His influence extended far beyond meetings. It shaped relationships and partnerships across districts.”

As Markus steps into retirement, OSC extends its sincere appreciation for his dedication, vision, and years of service. His contributions have left a lasting mark on the organization and the communities it serves.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of something that truly makes a difference,” Markus said. “OSC has always been about serving schools and students, and I’m proud to have played a role in that mission.”
