Message from the Provost
At Georgia Southern University, success isn’t defined by the moment students cross the graduation stage—it’s built in every experience that prepares them for what comes next. Across our campuses, I see students stepping confidently into internships, research projects, clinical rotations, co-ops, study abroad programs, and community partnerships that turn knowledge into impact.
In the Waters College of Health Professions, students are applying what they learn in classrooms to real-world clinical settings—delivering care, building empathy, and gaining the confidence that only comes from hands-on experience. In the Parker College of Business, Eagle interns are learning from industry leaders and turning innovative ideas into tangible solutions for Georgia’s growing economy. Our Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Computing students are testing prototypes at NASA, our educators in the College of Education are shaping future classrooms through immersive fieldwork, and our artists in the College of Arts and Humanities are finding their voices on national stages.
Every one of these opportunities reinforces what makes Georgia Southern unique: we don’t just prepare students for their first job—we prepare them for a lifetime of leadership, service, and adaptability in a world that won’t stop changing.
Supporting these experiences takes all of us—faculty who mentor with patience and vision, staff who build pathways and remove barriers, and alumni and partners who open doors and create opportunities. Together, we are expanding what student success looks like, ensuring that every Eagle can see a future shaped by their passions and powered by their education.
As we look ahead, I encourage you to celebrate these stories of growth and transformation. They remind us that when we invest in students’ potential, we don’t just strengthen individual futures—we elevate our entire University community.
Thank you for the work you do every day to help our students soar beyond the classroom.

Unlocking Possibility: Georgia Southern’s New TRIO Grant Empowers Students with Disabilities
Georgia Southern University has been awarded a new five-year TRIO Student Support Services grant dedicated to students with disabilities, expanding access and resources across the Armstrong, Liberty, and Statesboro campuses. The program will provide tailored advising, tutoring, and mentoring to 100 students, empowering them to reach their academic and personal goals. Combined with the renewal of Georgia Southern’s existing TRIO grant for first-generation and low-income students, the University has secured more than $2.7 million in federal funding to strengthen student success. As Dr. Dominique A. Quarles notes, these initiatives “are central to academic access and excellence.”

GS psychology faculty receives $195,000 federal grant renewal to expand behavioral health services in rural Georgia
“See a gap, fill a gap.” That’s how Jeffrey Klibert, Ph.D., associate director of clinical training in Georgia Southern University’s Doctor of Psychology (PsyD), described the inspiration behind a project designed to extend behavioral health services in rural areas.
Filling gaps is something Klibert said has always been a challenge in behavioral health care. This challenge became steeper in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Museum earns high marks with reaccreditation
The Georgia Southern University Museum’s commitment to education about Georgia’s Coastal Plain region and its communities helped it earn renewed accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) for another 10 years. The Museum first received the accreditation in 1997.
AAM accreditation is awarded based on several criteria including how a museum identifies and serves its community, the diversity of its programming, and its commitment to placing education at the center of public service. The accreditation committee noted the Georgia Southern Museum not only meets, but exceeds requirements in several key areas. Community partnerships like Project Eaglet received high praise from the evaluators, something that does not surprise Museum leadership.

Ensuring Academic Integrity in Folio Quizzes with Respondus LockDown Browser
The rise of advanced AI tools presents new challenges to maintaining academic integrity, particularly in online assessments like Folio quizzes. To ensure that your quizzes accurately reflect students' individual knowledge and effort, we strongly encourage all faculty to utilize Respondus LockDown Browser. This specialized browser is designed to prevent students from accessing other applications, searching the web, or using generative AI tools during a test, effectively maintaining a secure testing environment.
Integrating Respondus LockDown Browser is a straightforward and essential step in validating the learning outcomes of your courses. For an additional layer of security, you have the option to enable Respondus Monitor. This feature uses the student's webcam to record the student and their testing environment throughout the quiz. Furthermore, you can choose to record the student's screen activity during the assessment. These features not only restrict external access but also provide valuable insights into the testing session, giving you greater confidence that the work submitted is solely that of the student taking the quiz and promoting a fair and equitable learning environment. We understand that adopting new tools can sometimes be daunting, but the long-term benefit of reliable, secure testing is invaluable.
If you are new to using Respondus LockDown Browser, comprehensive training resources and setup guides are readily available through Learning Technology Support. Please take the time to explore how to implement LockDown Browser (and consider using Monitor) in your future Folio quizzes.
