Community Services for Non-Residential Clients

Did you know that we serve those impacted by domestic violence who are not in our emergency shelter? These non-residential clients have access to a wide array of services and assistance through our Community Services program.

The Community Services team offers Bergen County survivors and their families counseling, support groups, case management, risk assessment, safety planning, and direct assistance with finances, food, and basic necessity items.

In 2023, 343 individuals were assisted in the community (non-residential clients).

Former clients of Center for Hope & Safety’s residential services can also access these services. Our staff is dedicated to building relationships with survivors to help them reintegrate into the community and maintain their independence.

The program also offers Multicultural Services for Latinx and other minority/underserved victims of domestic violence in Bergen County. Priority issues facing this demographic include housing, medical insurance, mental health services, financial/economic issues, and immigration status.

"Getting support with housing has helped with the stress. The housing market is hard but having support from Center for Hope & Safety has really helped.”

In 1976, Shelter Our Sisters was founded as an emergency shelter in Bergen County for women and their children escaping domestic violence. Since then, the organization has evolved to offer a full continuum of services that support individuals in their journey to healing. To acknowledge this shift beyond emergency shelter, in 2014 we changed our name to Center for Hope & Safety.

This year is our 10-year anniversary of that name change. Please keep an eye on your inbox for more emails that spotlight why Center for Hope & Safety is so much more than a shelter.
