Claudio Mir’s entry to the FMC board continues the tradition of a professional partnership between Feeding Middlesex County and Rutgers University. Claudio is the Senior Program Coordinator for Rutger's Collaborative Center for Community Engagement, and Feeding Middlesex County has worked with student teams from the Center’s programs since FMC’s very beginning in 2017.
Claudio brings an extraordinary professional background to FMC. He has been an actor and an artist, at one point working with people at risk in the community using theater as a therapy tool. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at the Mason Gross School of Rutgers studying photography, film and video. He has used his skills at the New Brunswick Cultural Center and has done volunteer work with the New Jersey Arts Council, and he serves on the board of Elijah’s Promise. He is familiar with the fight to end food insecurity in Middlesex County, not only through his work at Elijah’s Promise but by participating in live transmissions of FMC events and in photographing FMC events.
“I feel that I have been working with FMC and my becoming a board member formalizes something that was already happening. It’s a natural development.” He continued, “I’m a hands-on person and I can help people work together as a team.”
Claudio is currently reaching out to FMC to create a project for the spring semester Advancing Community Development initiative, a partnership with Johnson & Johnson and Rutger's Collaborative Center. It will pair a student team to a specific FMC project for completion by May, 2023.
