Spread the Word: CalFresh assists people without enough food
Thousands in Contra Costa don't know they're eligible for help

Do you know someone who is struggling financially and doesn't have enough money for adequate food for themselves or their families?

An estimated 25,000 people in Contra Costa are in this position, and potentially eligible for CalFresh, the state's nutrition assistance program, run by counties.

But they don't know this.

I'm pleased to join a collaboration of Contra Costa agencies and organizations working to spread the word about the CalFresh program, to help get food assistance to anyone who is eligible and needs it.

This includes the County's Employment and Human Services Department, which has an office in Richmond, at 1305 Macdonald Avenue.

Word-of-mouth is an important way of encouraging people to look into the program.

This can be done easily in a number of ways, including:

  • The County's CalFresh program's webpage, or by phone at 877-505-4630 (info line), or in West County at 510-412- 3000
  • The Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano's CalFresh webpage or by phone at 925-677-7010.

The Food Bank has a simple on-line form for seeing if you're eligible.

Please help me help those without enough food, and pass this information along.

Sincerely,
John
