Osher Virtual Lecture

Biological-Age Prediction

and Informing a Mechanistic Theory of Aging

Synopsis: An individual’s degree of aging can be computed based on patterns of DNA methylation and is associated with an array of factors including diet, lifestyle, genetics, and disease. Prediction of age was an important first step, but it is believed that the focus must shift from chasing increasingly accurate age computations to understanding the links between the epigenome and the mechanisms and physiological changes of aging. This lecture will outline emerging areas of epigenetic aging research that prioritize biological understanding and clinical application.

Presenter: Adam Li and Zane Koch are second year PhD candidates in UCSD’s Trey Ideker Lab. The lab is a pioneering, innovative group of enthusiastic scientists with expertise across a variety of disciplines, including systems biology, cellular modeling, cancer genomics, computational biology, epigenetics, and psychiatric diseases. Both Li and Koch’s interests lie in mechanisms of epigenetic aging and its reprogramming.

FAQ

Q. Why don't I see Spreckels activities written in the Eagle Journal newspaper?

A. Coronado is fortunate to have many activities and events planned by multiple local agencies (City, non profit organizations, etc). The Eagle Journal is limited in space in what it can print for customers to read. While we submit press releases for many Spreckels programs, we cannot guarantee that the Eagle Journal will print it. The newsletter you are reading right now is the BEST WAY to learn about our offerings.

Q. Why are the Spreckels Rules listed in the newsletter this month?

A. Spreckels Center is a shared public space and it's important to make guests aware of facility rules. The rules are posted on the community board in the Lounge.

With an average of over 100 customer visits daily, awareness of rules ensures customers can co-exist and agree to basic tenets.

We thank our patrons for the kindness and thoughtfulness they have when sharing our beautiful space!
