Beginning Conversational Spanish

Bodyweight Basics for Core Strength
Use your own bodyweight as you perform exercises to increase your muscle mass and bone density in this 30 minute bi-weekly class. Led by volunteer instructor, Cynthia Mendolia, Certified Clinic Health and Wellness Coach ACE, CPT, improve your total body strength, balance, coordination and flexibility.

Stitched Together-
a Needlework Exhibition
Now through December
John D. Spreckels Center, 1019 7th Street
“Stitched Together,” a show featuring local fiber artists is on display thanks to the Coronado Cultural Arts Commission. The gallery showcases the work of local fiber artists Ann Goodfellow, Sandy Barkhurst, Candace Tyler and the work of the late Marilynn Crehore.
Over 30 intricate framed pieces are on display. Stop by and enjoy this free art viewing during Spreckels Center open hours.

Osher Lifelong Learning Lecture
Topic:
Managing California's Water Supply:
Past, Present, and Future
Synopsis: This lecture will examine trends in water use and water-supply development and how those trends will impact the reliability of California’s water supply in the future. The effects of climate change and requiring water planners to prepare for longer periods of drought, with shorter, but more intense, periods of precipitation. This change means that new approaches are needed for managing water throughout California.
Presenter: Jeff Stephenson is a water-resource manager at the San Diego County Water Authority. He works in a variety of areas, including water policy, water-supply planning, and drought-management planning. He has serves as an instructor in SDSU’s College of Extended Studies and has worked in a congressional office, both in Washington, DC, and in California. He has a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration.

October can be hauntingly fun when you kick off the month with a Ghosts & Gravestones Old Town Tour! Staff will drive you to the start of your adventure on the “Trolly of the Doomed”. Be prepared to tour 10 haunted sites and hear about the stories, history, mystery and legends in San Diego. A portion of the tour will include traversing on uneven grounds at historical sites.
Sign-up early as seating is limited.

Q. Can I come to the center without signing up for anything?
A. Absolutely. The John D. Spreckels Center is open to the public. Stop by and relax in our air conditioned Lounge. Our building has a welcoming atmosphere, large windows for connection to the outside and staff are friendly.
There are also two spacious outdoor patios to enjoy. One north facing and shaded, and the other faces bustling Orange Avenue.

Refund and Transfer Policy |
General Withdrawal and Refund:
For any class that is canceled by the Recreation and Golf Services Department, the registrant is entitled to a transfer, credit, or a full refund. Refunds for programs paid with cash or check will be processed within 4-6 weeks. Refunds for programs paid with a credit card will be refunded to that credit card.
• Requests for refunds and withdrawals will be granted if received 72 hours prior to the first day of class or camp.
• A 25% administrative fee will be charged per person/per class for all withdrawals and transfers requested less than 72 hours prior to the start of the program.
• Refunds or transfers will not be granted once the program begins.
• Refund requests for one day events will not be refunded if cancellation is requested after 72-hours or less.
Medical Refunds:
In the event of a medical emergency, injury, or illness, a refund, less pro-rated fees for classes attended, will be authorized when verified with a signed and dated physicians note.
• A refund request for a medical emergency must be received prior to the last day of the class or camp session.
Transfers:
We will be happy to grant any requests for transfers made in person or by phone if received 72 hours prior to the first day of the program. Transfers will not be granted to those who fail to attend a program or fail to request the transfer 72 hours prior to the start of the program.
