Save the date for the Opening Reception of I Stood My Ground to be held on Wednesday, March 27th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. This new exhibition is part of the 2024 Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos season titled Against the Grain, which seeks to challenge hegemonic narratives and advocate for the restitution of overlooked stories to build up a more inclusive historical account. | |

BRONX MEMOIR PROJECT VOLUME VIII COVER ART

BCA invites Bronx-based photographers and visual artists to design a cover for Bronx Memoir Project Volume VIII, a multi-genre anthology written during the 2023-2024 Bronx Memoir Project Workshop Series. The selected artist will receive a stipend of $500.
The application deadline is Monday, April 1st at 11:59 PM.

THE ART OF PRESENTATION: A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO BUILDING, CRAFTING, AND PERFECTING YOUR PORTFOLIO

In The Art of Presentation, performing artists, media practitioners, and visual artists will learn how to build a compelling portfolio that will make a lasting impact on prospective clients, employers, or collaborators.
This three-part virtual Artist Sustainability Workshop Series (ASWS) will take place on Tuesdays, between March 12th and March 26th from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM via Zoom.

Kareema Hussein
Meet Kareema, new Director of Programs at BCA!
"I am extremely excited to join the Bronx Council on the Arts and their team of passionate advocates for inclusion in the arts."
Before joining BCA’s team, Kareema served in the public sector as Director of We Speak NYC, an English language learning and conversation program developed and administered by the City of New York, Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA). During her 6 years at MOIA, Kareema advanced her experience in program strategy, operations, and expansion, focusing on designing sustainable programs for social impact and inclusion. Before this, Kareema worked as a Studio Director and a Textile Designer for Le Studio Anthost. Kareema graduated from the Macaulay Honors College at Lehman College where she studied Studio Art concentrating in Photography and Sculpture.
