President's Letter

Dear Members, dear Colleagues,

This is my first message as President of the IAWMH. I am proud to lead an organization whose mission is to improve the mental health of women worldwide. The IAWMH has been active since 2001 and has organized 10 successful congresses across various countries. The latest Congress in Bangalore was a great success both in terms of attendance and scientific and experiential content. I would like to express my gratitude to Professor Prabha Chandra for organizing the congress and for her leadership over the past two years.

During the next two years of my presidency, which will culminate in the 11th Congress in Barcelona, I, along with the entire Board, look forward to continuing to work on the Society’s missions. In addition to improving the mental health of women globally, we aim to:

  • Expand the knowledge base on Women’s Mental Health,
  • Promote gender-sensitive and autonomy-enhancing mental health services for women,
  • Advance collaboration with other societies and sections.
  • We hope to achieve all of this with the collaboration of our members, and we also encourage more individuals to join as members of the Society.

For our growth, we invite you to reach out to me and the Board to share your concerns, activity proposals, and other initiatives. Together, we can continue to act as international advocates for Women’s Mental Health.

With my best personal wishes

Judith Usall i Rodié

From the Editor-in-Chief of Our Journal,

Archives of Women’s Mental Health

Archives of Women’s Mental Health (AWMH) is the official journal of the International Association for Women’s Mental Health (IAWMH), the International Society for Psychiatric Disorders in Childbearing (Marcé), and the North American Society for Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynecology (NASPOG).

AWMH welcomes articles on risk factors affecting women’s mental health and on policies aimed at preventing mental illness in women. To cover the full spectrum of women’s mental health, we encourage submissions not only from psychiatry and gynecology but also from related fields such as sociology, psychology, epidemiology, stress research, basic research, psychoendocrinology, neuroimaging, neuropsychology, and more. Interdisciplinary studies are especially welcome. We are also interested in contributions focusing on training and education in women’s mental health, as well as on mentoring programs for women.

The year 2024 has been a challenging one for many of us. Women, children, and men living in war zones are experiencing severe trauma that frequently results in serious mental health issues. As professionals, we understand the profound implications of this for the future, and we must raise our voices against violence wherever it occurs. Archives of Women’s Mental Health has published several research articles addressing the suffering caused by such trauma and exploring ways to help. A topical collection currently in print focuses on “Refugee Women and Perinatal Mental Health.” We strongly encourage you to submit more articles on topics related to trauma, violence against women in war zones, and the resulting mental health consequences. I sincerely hope the work published in our journal will contribute to improving the mental health of women worldwide.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all authors, Section Editors, members of the Editorial Board, and reviewers for their invaluable efforts during these difficult times.
