Celebrate spring, summer with hikes and more
Parks season is here, and our activities calendar is bursting with spring and summer outings. Yoga on the beach , forest walks , night hikes , a pride hike and potluck, cultural history walks, and a new nature journaling series are just some of the adventures we've got planned. Would you use a Russian River bike trail?
Imagine cycling or walking along the Russian River, all the way from Forestville to Jenner, without having to hug the shoulder of a busy road. We're studying the potential for a river trail and want to hear from you. How often would you use such a trail? Should it be located next to the road or the river? What design features are important? Explore Tolay Lake with Bill & Dave Hikes
Sonoma Valley hiking guides Bill and Dave are making a special trip west to lead a May 11 hike at newly opened Tolay Lake Regional Park . Join them for a free, 9-mile hike to the park's ridges, ponds and Tolay Creek. This is a great opportunity to get the lay of the land at this 3,400-acre park, take in views of San Pablo Bay and beyond and enjoy the season's remaining wildflowers.
Take flight with Castles & Kites at Doran Beach
Get your head in the clouds and your hands in the sand at the annual Castles & Kites celebration May 18 at Doran Beach . Come out to Bodega Bay for a day of kite flying and sandcastle building. Launch your own kite or watch expert flyers. Design your own sand creation or admire the work of long-time sculptors. Either way, it's a day at the beach!
Bounce into swim season at Spring Lake
Summer fun returns to Spring Lake when the swimming lagoon , floating water park and boat rentals open for the season May 25, Memorial Day weekend. The holiday also marks the return of our Russian River safety patrol and our beach stands stocked with loaner life jackets. And because May is National Water Safety Month, here's our advice for playing it safe on the river
