YES! Quarterly
Spring 2018

YES! Has a New Look, Name, and Website!

Just in time to celebrate Earth Week, YES! is launching a new website at yesmn.org! We have kept our name YES! but changed the acronym definition from Youth Energy Summit to Youth Eco Solutions. After much consideration and input from a variety of stakeholders, we feel this name more accurately describes  the   mission and vision of  who YES! is today.

Celebrating All 2017-2018 YES! Teams

As we near spring judging and the end of another great year of YES!, we want to celebrate all of our 2017-2018 YES! teams across the state. Their impact has radiated beyond their schools, into their communities, and beyond!

YES! Alumni Spotlight

We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Stephanie Pederson, an alumna of the YES! team at Eden Valley-Watkins High School. She now works in Energy Services at Dakota Electric Association. While a member of the YES! team, she worked on numerous projects including a photo-voltaic solar installation. She was also given the opportunity to present information about her group's solar project at the American Solar Energy Society National Solar Conference in 2012.

Through participating in YES!, Stephanie gained skills in "project management, public speaking, teaching techniques for different audiences, and most of all, industry knowledge!". She also believes "YES! helped our team learn about real issues happening in the world with pollution, energy, and more. Sometimes the issues could seem overwhelming, but they fueled a desire within us students to find solutions." YES! also guided her decisions about "secondary education, internships, and has landed me in a career as an energy professional".

Her favorite part of participating in YES! were the workshops. She notes, "in sustainability, the best outcome is only possible through collaboration". We are proud of you, Stephanie and wish you the best in your career!

More Winter Workshop Fun
The YES! coordinators have put together several customized Winter Workshops since our last newsletter, so we wanted to share what teams learned at the following events:

Now that Winter Workshops are complete, spring judging will be happening soon! We are excited to celebrate everything that teams have accomplished this school year.
