Thank you for being an important stakeholder of Canada Lands Company. With renewed public interest in Shannon Park, we wanted to reach out to you about recent events.

But first some background….

As many of you know Canada Lands Company submitted its development plan to the Halifax Regional Municipality (“HRM”) in 2016 as part of the City’s Centre Plan process, after completing a robust consultation process in 2015 and 2016. We are hopeful that the Centre Plan process will be finalized in the near future.
Then in 2018, with the full support of HRM, Schooners Sports and Entertainment (“SSE”) approached Canada Lands Company about potentially acquiring a section of the Shannon Park site for community stadium use. Canada Lands Company agreed to consider.

What is happening now….

We have signed a letter of intent and since Canada Lands Company already has a plan in place that is supported by the community, we want to ensure that clear conditions are in place before considering the sale of any land to SSE.

These conditions include:
  • SSE and HRM are required to undertake further engagement with the community regarding a community stadium use;
  • HRM and the Province indicate to Canada Lands Company its support for the community stadium in the interest of municipal and broader regional community benefit;
  • Canada Lands Company and SSE coordinating efforts with the Millbrook First Nation and their neighbouring development plans; and
  • HRM approval of the revised concept plan – one which includes the development principles supported by the community during Canada Lands Company’s initial consultation process.

What to look for….

If the community stadium is to proceed, SSE and HRM will be conducting public engagement as per Canada Lands Company’s conditions. We encourage you to participate to make your views about a community stadium known. Canada Lands Company will continue to keep you informed as the process moves forward.

Below is a demonstration plan that shows the location of a potential community stadium.
