Spring 2020 CIHR Project Grant Competition
Greetings Institute members considering CIHR's Spring Project Scheme competition:

It's that time of year again! The Cumming School of Medicine requires its CIHR Project Scheme applicants to make use of the institute-supported Internal Peer Review (IPR) and the same advantage is available to O'Brien's non-CSM members.

Internal Peer Review Registration with O'Brien Institute

It is recommended that applicants start the IPR process at least eight to twelve weeks prior to agency submission, so now is an excellent time to register for O’Brien Institute IPR, for CIHR’s early March submission deadline.

To register for IPR, login to Enterprise Collaboration Services and comple te the registration using the   IPH-IPR Upload Attachment Form found on the Internal Peer Review page. Registration at the CSM site will provide important updates from CSM and CIHR, and useful resources.

For applicants without access to the CSM link, please complete and submit the long form registration found in the Internal Peer Review page and send the form to iph@ucalgary.ca .

Note for applicants waiting until January 22 for anticipated Notice of Decision on pending CIHR Project grant submissions:

  • recall that the path to Project grant success often includes iterative 'revise and resubmit' cycles, benefiting from IPR each cycle; and
  • to reapply for IPR, notify iph@ucalgary.ca, including information on preferred reviewers.

  • If you are intending on applying you should now be considering setting up your Internal Peer Review (IPR) committee. Please log on to the CSM IPR site and register your committee or if you are having challenges reach out to your IPR review lead for more information.
  • The IPR site contains a number of resources including a list of the competition committee mandates and past reviewer names, sample successful applications, a budget calculator, Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity guide, a document highlighting the research support environment, and many others. These resources will be updated throughout the coming months, so check back often. For instance, new successful grants will be uploaded shortly after results for the Fall competition are announced.
  • Please do not hesitate to reach out to the Grant Development Office (GDO), Jenna Slobozian, for any questions or concerns you may have. The GDO will be providing reviews of applications again this year, more details will be forthcoming.
