Happy spring! Yes, I know it's still February, but I'm taking my inspiration from Punxsutawney Phil who is predicting an early spring!
It's been a busy start to 2020 for me. I'm teaching two classes at George Mason University, one on facilitation which is a full semester course, and the other a career intensive seminar that starts on Monday. Read here about last semester's class. Other activities I've been busy with include:
I was the keynote speaker in early January at theAssociation of Faculties for the Advancement of Community College Teaching (AFACCT) conference in Baltimore. I spoke about the importance of community colleges in advancing global learning. I also hosted two panels of Fulbright grantees sharing about their work.
In late January, I visited Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore to present to students on peacebuilding career pathways.
Also in January I attended the Society for International Development annual career fair at George Washington University.
I was the keynote speaker for Northern Virginia Community College's Lyceum Speaker series in late January where I worked with students in considering peace entrepreneurship.
Coming later this spring include a visit in Juniata College in Huntington, PA and to the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. For both visits, I will be offering career workshops for students. I also will on March 4 hold a webinar for the Virginia Mediation Network.
For this newsletter, I have linked below to articles on career awareness and looking for work. These are pieces that I often send to my clients. I read a range of online and print newspapers, magazines, and sources to pick from writings I think are particularly relevant to finding work today.
I'm currently planning my spring and summer 2020 travel and programs. If you are interested in a visit to hold a workshop on careers or peacebuilding, let me know.
Happy spring! It's coming soon.
