Hello Friends,
We hope that you are well and enjoying the warmer days! Spring is in the air, and at Pianos for People we are happy to once again have the sound of pianos filling our schools on Cherokee Street and in Ferguson!
After a year of conducting our free piano lessons and classes online, we are now finally beginning to return to in-person teaching. By scheduling lessons apart, using all of our spaces, taking temperatures of students, requiring masks and constantly sanitizing all pianos and other surfaces, we are taking all necessary steps to ensure a safe and gradual return to our normal school operations. It's been a long year, and we are extremely grateful to all of our supporters and especially to our students' parents, who have been committed to helping us keep their children engaged in their learning.
We also resumed our piano donation program and recently reached a historic milestone with our 300th donation! (more on that below).
We can't thank you enough for continuing to believe in our mission and supporting our work to bring the healing power of music to those who need it most.
With gratitude,

Matt Brinkmann
Executive Director

On March 4th, our founders Tom and Jeanne Townsend received the Humanitarian of the Year Award from The Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors in a virtual Annual Awards show. It was a wonderful tribute to Tom and Jeanne and their philanthropic efforts, including Pianos for People.

The Caucus is a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles that for nearly 40 years has provided grants, scholarships and mentoring to the next generation of film and television artists. Along with Tom and Jeanne, the organization's 38th Annual Awards Gala recognized such distinguished film and television personalities as Reese Witherspoon and Aaron Sorkin.

300th Piano Donation!

We celebrated International Piano Day (the 88th day of the year!) with a historic occasion - our 300th piano donation since we first began in 2012!  The media was on hand on Monday morning, March 29 as we arrived at the home of Laurie Bowen in Ballwin to pick up her beautiful Baldwin Hamilton upright. From there, it was a 20-mile trip to the home of Amani Dugger, an 11-year-old student of ours who was anxiously awaiting its arrival along with her PFP teacher "Mr. Mike" Carosello.

We are grateful to the media for all of the positive coverage we got for the story, and you can see and hear much of it via the following links:

Give STL Day - May 6

Give STL Day is coming up soon on May 6! This annual, 24-hour giving day supported by the St. Louis Community Foundation allows our region to come together and show how generous we really are. Various nonprofits in St. Louis and beyond raise millions of dollars combined each year during this event. Early giving has already begun, and we are so grateful to the donors who have already given to us in support of free pianos and lessons. AND we have a generous donor matching every contribution up to $1,000, so your gift is doubled!

There are several ways you can show your support for Pianos for People:
  1. Donate at: https://www.givestlday.org/pianosforpeople
  2. Share this website with your friends and family
  3. Create a fundraiser of your own by following the FUNDRAISE link
  4. Tag us on social media with #GiveSTLDay
  5. Spread the word about our free pianos and lessons!
Through this effort, we hope to reach new believers in the power of music. Now is such an important time to use the arts to heal and break down barriers, so that all have the opportunity to experience those benefits.

Summer Music Camp Registration is Open!

Our 2021 Summer Music Camp registration is now open! Due to COVID-19, we will have all safety guidelines from the CDC in place including small group sizes, social distancing, temperature checks, required masks, and frequent disinfecting.

All camps take place from 10am-12pm and last 50 minutes. Beginner Group Piano sessions are for students who are new to the piano or have taken lessons for less than 6 months. These will be offered twice at each of our locations. At our Cherokee location, they will be held from June 7-10 or June 21-24. In Ferguson, we will offer these same sessions from July 12-15 and July 19-22.

The Piano Enrichment sessions are for students who have taken two or more semesters of lessons. These will be offered at Cherokee from July 14-17 and in Ferguson from July 19-22.  We'll also be offering our popular Intro to Music Production class for ages 10-17.
