Spring 2021
Greetings to all of you,

I was able to take a respite weekend recently in Northern Michigan. It was a beautiful, blue sky day, with the snow beginning to melt. I could almost hear the maple sap beginning to run. As an optimist, I hope this is "the beginning of the end" of winter.

This is a fitting metaphor for what we hope is the "beginning of the end" of this exhausting chapter in all of our lives. For each of us, in various ways, have been struggling to find ways to balance the importance and meaning of our work, care of our patients, and our own health and that of our dear ones. This intense political year, and the injustices of systemic racism continue to reverberate throughout the country.

It is my hope that the spring and summer bring some opportunity to reflect, to get outdoors, to remain active and passionate and to be reunited with friends and family, as safety permits.

Speaking with all of you across the state has been one thing that has sustained me personally this year. Hearing from you, your struggles, your triumphs and your continued work with parents and children always reminds me of how important you are to those families, and how lucky I am to have you as colleagues.

Happy Spring. May this upcoming year bring healing and health.

MC3 Perinatal Expansion Update
MC3 Perinatal is expanding outreach and enrollment strategies for perinatal providers, with a focus on engaging clinics in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Berrien counties, where the largest gaps in perinatal psychiatric care have been identified.

To support these efforts, MC3 Perinatal has welcomed Smita Bhattacharya, MSc., as the Expansion Coordinator! She supports the implementation of High Touch, High Tech (HT2) to advance health equity by reaching perinatal women in underserved communities. With a focus on innovative tools, Smita utilizes technology and visual design to make data more accessible to general audiences and widen impact across disciplines. Smita holds a Master of Science in Biotechnology from the Johns Hopkins University and Bachelor of Science in Neuropsychology from the University of Michigan.

As an offering through MC3 Perinatal, HT2 provides a mom-facing screening for risk as well as short-term connection to behavioral health consultants. In addition, both enrolled providers and moms will have access to a virtual resource toolkit of regional community-based services.
