EXCITING NEW FUNDING FOR GROUNDWORK RICHMOND!

Groundwork Richmond secured a third round of funding to continue our air monitoring program (Air Rangers) from the California Air Resources Board. This $299K grant will allow us to broaden our air quality monitoring in Richmond and provide free Purple Air censors to community members! If you are interested in hosting one at your residence at no cost to you, please reach out to Salma Berumen at Salma@groundworkrichmond.org

We are also very excited to share that we were awarded a CalFIRE Workforce Development grant. This grant will recruit up to 60 community members from Richmond to train and prepare them for employment within the arboriculture (tree maintenance) field. We will begin rolling this program out this Fall 2022!
RECRUITING BOARD MEMBERS!

Groundwork Richmond (GWR) is seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals with a variety of skill sets to join GWR as members of its board.
GWR has devoted over 12 years of community service to combat climate change through its various programs. Throughout the years, GWR has developed urban forestry projects planting more than 2500 trees in the community, a youth leadership development program, the Green Team and urban greening projects including collaboration with Friends of the Richmond Greenway (FORG) in building Unity Park a $5 million dollar City of Richmond park.

GREEN TEAM CHRONICLES
This month The Green Team has been cultivating and refining their community outreach skills. It has been projected that by the end of the century, parts of the North Richmond neighborhood and Richmond Parkway will be flooded during storms and high tides. To counteract the changes caused by climate change the Green Team is working one on one with The Watershed Project, to find new ways to keep our city safe from flooding.

Some Green Team members expressed their excitement in becoming familiar with local organizations and how a grassroots mindset can promote sustainability and biodiversity in a city that is predominantly covered in concrete. One green team member said

"I really like partnering up with The watershed project because they actively involve the community and it shows me that people care about Richmond, not just myself. It makes me feel like we're all in this together" - Green Team Member
Another member expressed their excitement in the active involvement of science and math:

"Working with community members to figure out eco-friendly solutions for sea-level rise is great because we focus on the biology and architecture that can positively impact the biodiversity of Richmond. Biology is also something that I plan on majoring on in College so it aligns with my life goals. I'm aiming for a living levee to further protect our estuaries which in return will protect us from erosion" - Green Team Member
Community Air Monitoring Webinar
Groundwork Richmond partnered with City of Richmond and Ramboll to host the Community Air Monitoring Webinar last month in an effort to educate the community on recent data findings. Below is the recording of the webinar if you missed it! Thank you to everyone who attended.
Community Planting Day at Nicholl Park
This past President's Day Groundwork Richmond hosted a community planting day at Nicholl Park with the wonderful support of volunteers and our Green Team! We were able to plant 15 trees at Nicholl Park. We were even able to recruit some volunteers who were visiting the park! Do you want to help us plant more trees in Richmond? Send an email to Jess Duncan at Jess@groundworkrichmond.org
