April and May Activities
Our spring calendar is packed full of fun things happening at Schumacher Farm Park! Many of our classes have limited space or seating, so register soon.
Line dancing lessons are being held in the Center for Rural History each Monday in April, and registration is currently full! We're happy to have instructor Nancy Vidlak back to teach this workshop this year. Due to the high demand of these sessions, Nancy will be offering another round in June. Registration to be set up soon.
Yoga instructor Sarah Dimick is continuing her monthly Yoga for Resilience series with a class titled "Yoga for Mother Earth" on April 6th. Register through Sarah's website. A great way to kick off spring, so get it on these last couple of sessions - one more will be held on May 4th.
We have an exciting new workshop coming on April 9th called "Bringing Old Tools Back to Work." This hands-on workshop focuses on refurbishing tools from rusted to ready to use and will be lead by Todd Fleming with the Low-Tech Institute. Registration required.
On April 21st, we have a free Butterfly Garden Design workshop. This workshop is in partnership with Waunakee's Monarch Pledge, which promotes awareness and conservation initiatives of the Monarch butterfly. Registration is now full. If you'd like to receive the workshop handouts, please contact the park office.
Our annual Springtime on the Farm will be Sunday, April 24th. This free, family-friendly event includes kite flying, yard games, hikes, and more. No registration, drop-ins welcome.

Photo Exhibit Feature
Rona Neri, our core volunteer event photographer and Nature Photography workshop facilitator, is exhibiting her exceptional work at Gallery 800 UBD in Madison this spring. Titled “One Sacred Wild”, the exhibit features images of wildlife from Wisconsin, Africa and beyond. Together the images elicit an understanding of our interconnection with all forms of life. In her art, Rona evokes intimacy and relationship with wildlife and the land because people protect what they love. Rona is an award-winning photographer who has been published in National Wildlife Federation magazine. In 2021 her piece Ukiyo-e (which will be on display in the exhibit) was accepted and awarded at the state exhibition of the Wisconsin Regional Art Program (WRAP).
Visitors can see over forty of Rona’s pieces on the gallery’s two floors. Images are printed on high-quality lightweight aluminum, with frameless finished product that lends a vibrance and immediacy unique to metal prints. All pieces are for sale and available for pick up or delivery at the close of the exhibit. You can also see photo collages of her work on display in our Center for Rural History, metal prints of fox kits in the Waunakee Public Library’s childrens’ section and all of her images on her website: www.ronasphotography.com .
“One Sacred Wild” will be held from May 6 – September 23, 2022. Gallery 800 UBD (800 University Bay Drive) is open Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM or by appointment (608)238-0623.

Waunakee Wellness Fair
Office Administrator Amanda Sherer and Board President Mark Pelton attended the Annual Waunakee Wellness Fair on behalf of Schumacher Farm Park on Saturday, March 26th. They had a display table showcasing the park and promoted the idea of how being in nature and volunteering can benefit one's wellness. We can certainly attest to that - our volunteers are the spunkiest bunch of people!
|
Office admin-istrator, Amanda Sherer, will be adding some volunteer coordination tasks to her role. Her goal is to work with the board, staff, and other stakeholders to facilitate volunteer involvement for identified park needs. Feel free to contact her at events.schumacher@gmail.com for any volunteer-related concerns.
