H.C Bonner Engine Replacement update

As we announced in the fall, the Herbert C. Bonner is currently hauled out and undergoing a full engine replacement in addition to its bi-annual dry dock Coast Guard Inspection. The engine replacement was funded in part by a grant from RI DEM through the Disel Emissions Reduction Act and will replace the existing engines and generators with Tier 3 models greatly reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency.

The project is on time with the new engines and generators already installed and work is currently underway to hook up the controls and other systems with the new engines. Over the next few weeks, the vessel will undergo testing and inspections before it can be recommissioned for service. We are looking forward to a cleaner, quieter Herbert C. Bonner returning this spring!

Spring Schedule

Spring schedule starts April 1st 2022

The spring schedule adds on the Friday 7:30/8:00 PM runs and the Sunday 6:45/7:30 PM.

We will be closely monitoring the schedule for available vehicle space and are prepared to add on additional runs if necessary while the Prudence Ferry remains in service. Booking your reservations well in advance not only guarantees your vehicle spot but also helps us to see where additional runs may be needed. To book a reservation today Click Here.

We are currently booking reservations through May 2022. As of right now, May 2022 is booking for the Prudence Ferry meaning limited vehicles spaces are available. As soon as the Herbert C. Bonner is recommissioned, we will update the schedule for that vessel and more vehicle spaces will become available. We will send out a text alert when the schedule is updated. A Message from the Bristol Harbormaster's Office

Beginning April 15th, the parking lot located at the ferry in Bristol will no longer be available for day parking and will be available for marina permitted vehicles only.

Beginning May 1st, the parking lot across the street from the ferry lot will be open for free day parking and paid overnight parking. To pay for overnight parking visit the Harbormaster's office in the armory building.

A website with parking information is currently under development from the Town of Bristol and the Harbormaster's office. As soon as that website goes live, we will share the link but until then call the Harbormasters office at 401-253-1700 for parking questions and information.

A Message from Officer Tavernier

As the weather warms up and the island begins to get busier, please remember that the speed limit on the island is 20 mph and that there is no riding in the back of pickup trucks.

Help us keep the PI parking lot available by not storing vehicles for extended periods of time. Officer Tavernier is available to assist anyone who needs to move their vehicle to their residence to park it rather than leaving it in the lot.

Reminder, low speed vehicles (golf carts, gators etc.) need to be registered. The registration for these vehicles is good for two years. Check in with Officer Tavernier at ferry time if you need the registration paperwork or have any questions.
