Meet Mayor Katy Kinney Harris!

If you have not already, please stop by Town Hall to meet Mayor Katy Kinney Harris! Katy is honored to be your mayor.

Outdoor/Experiential Education is a strong family value. My children’s interest in Environmental Science and Conservation paralleled mine, which led to decades of projects and service with the Seattle Aquarium Society, Woodland Park Zoo and Pacific Northwest YMCA Camps. My decades of advocacy for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Board of Ambassadors continues to keep me grounded and grateful. In addition to various local non-profit endeavors, I frequently travel to NYC where I passionately strive to produce an Original Broadway Musical.

I enjoy triathlons, hiking, swimming at Samena or in Lake Washington off the dock at Road End Beach or at Loch Lane Beach with my Golden Retriever Langley. You will likely see me walking around YP with her.

Katy loves exploring the outdoors and when she is not found enjoying a walk on the streets of Yarrow Point with her dog Langley, she is often hiking some of the most beautiful areas she can find!

The Value of Community

Katy learned the value of community early in her close-knit Navy family life, moving and establishing new relationships 19 times before attending college. Her three kids were raised on the Eastside with those same family values instilled in them. We all immediately felt at home in the community of Yarrow Point, buying a home on 94^th in 2013. I highly regard preserving the unique qualities of Yarrow Point that make it such a wonderful place to live.

Trash Pickup - An unexpected way to start off the job!

We all don't want to relive that crazy month+ long stretch of no trash collection. After listening to the incoming complaints and uncertainty about a future pick up date, Katy realized there had to be an interim solution so she literally jumped right in by hiring a private trash collection company and did the dirty work herself by picking up residents' trash all around town. It was not a task that many mayors can say they have done and a great gift she provided to her residents in an uncertain time. Thank you, Katy!

Additional Paddleboard Slots on NE 42nd St.

Congratulations to those who won a paddleboard slot this year and good news for those who entered but did not win. The Town has added six additional paddle board storage slots at the end of NE 42nd St. The Town holds a lottery opportunity during the first week of April to offer residents to store their paddle board free of charge in the storage slots. Storage is valid until Nov 1.

Spring Trimming

The Town of Yarrow Point is very appreciative of residents' efforts to maintain the landscaping on town Rights of Way (ROW) in front of your property. Your time, attention, and maintenance allows the town to retain a liberal ROW policy that results in the community feel and look we all enjoy. With this in mind, we rely on all residents to ensure plants and trees do not encroach onto the pavement corridor and thereby affect the ability of vehicles and pedestrians to safely navigate our streets and pathways.

The pavement corridor is considered to be from edge of pavement to edge of pavement horizontally and then 14 feet vertically. With this notification, we are asking you to take corrective action to please trim back vegetation 1-foot behind the edge of the pavement and 14-feet up vertically.

Dog Poop Epidemic - Please do your part and pick up after your dog!

This topic is not our favorite revisit however it is one that continues to resurface. This is another friendly reminder to please use the Town's Mutt Mitt stations and pick up after your dog. There is also a garbage can next to each station. Please be a respectful neighbor and pick up after your dog. Thank you!

How Does Yarrow Point Cover Our Expenses

Did you know that the real estate excise tax that’s generated by home sales in Yarrow Point accounts for a large percentage of our Town revenue annually? We use this real estate excise tax (REET) to pay for a large portion of our capital improvements. These are projects like burying power lines and stormwater improvements. The largest percentage of our revenue comes from property taxes. We also receive a portion of sales taxes, utility taxes, and other levies at the local and state level. Our Treasurer carefully budgets and documents these hundreds of accounts to keep us in the black, with the Town Council’s constant scrutiny and approval. Our Clerk-Treasurer Bonnie Ritter and our Deputy Clerk Austen Wilcox help the Town run fiscally responsibly and smoothly. THANK YOU, Bonnie and Austen!

Celebrate Arbor Day at Town Hall - April 29th! Pick Up a Free Tree Sapling at Town Hall!

The Town of Yarrow Point is a recognized Tree City and proclaims April 29th as Arbor Day. We have a limited supply of (free) spruce and cedar tree saplings available for planting at your residence. The saplings will be available for pick up at Town Hall between April 25 - 29 on a first come first serve basis. Please visit or contact Town Hall for more information.
