Welcome to the Spring 2023

Carolyn Harris Royal Historian Newsletter

The Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla is May 6, 2023

I will be providing coronation commentary on CBC Radio on May 6 and discussing coronation traditions on The Social on CTV on May 5.

In recent weeks, I have been talking about the history of coronation ceremonies and celebrations with the media, and writing articles for Reader's Digest Canada about coronations and royal residences. I discussed my career with the Queen's University Department of History Alumni Archives podcast.

I am the co-editor of a four volume series: English Consorts: Power, Influence, and Dynasty. Two of the volumes were published by Palgrave Macmillan in Spring 2023: Later Plantagenet and the Wars of the Roses Consorts: Power, Influence, and Dynasty and Hanoverian to Windsor Consorts: Power, Influence, and Dynasty.

Hanoverian to Windsor Consorts: Power, Influence, and Dynasty now available from Palgrave Macmillan

I co-edited Hanoverian to Windsor Consorts: Power, Influence, and Dynasty, a book that contains scholarly chapters about all British royal consorts from the early eighteenth century to today including Queen Charlotte, Prince Albert, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Prince Philip. I wrote the volume and section introductions, as well as the chapter about Camilla, Catherine and the future of the role of the royal consort.
