SPRING 2023 NEWSLETTER

A MESSAGE FROM:

Ian Wheeliker,

Executive Director

Spring marks the end of our fiscal year, and I want express my appreciation and gratitude to our staff, Board of Directors, sponsors, supporters and partners for your tremendous contributions to The Outreach Centre.

Thanks to your support, we were able to provide backpacks to 901 children through Tools for School, serve 208 families and 451 children through Adopt a Family, complete some much needed upgrades at Julietta's Place, deliver our School Based Education Programs to thousands of students and so much more!

This year has not been without its challenges. More people than ever before are relying on the programs offered through The Outreach Centre's 4 major areas of service – healthy relationships, mental well-being and suicide prevention, housing stability, and self-sufficiency. The continued lack of affordable housing, increasing costs of basic needs and reduced access to health supports can have devastating impacts on a community. Across all of our programming, we remain focused on meeting the unique needs of the individuals and families that we serve.

Watch for our upcoming Annual Report, which will highlight our program statistics, accomplishments and impact on the community for the 2022-23 fiscal year.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT

COBS BREAD BAKERY

Cobs Bread Bakery operates 145 bakeries in Canada and over 700 around the world. The first Cobs opened in Red Deer in 2015. They bake all of their pastries and breads in house and from scratch. From sourdough to hot cross buns, Cobs is your one stop shop for fresh bread and baked goods!

Giving back to the community that supports them is very important to the team at Cobs. Products are baked fresh every day and the end of every day, unsold items are donated to charitable organizations as part of the COBS End of Day Giving Program. With many people struggling with food insecurity, and growing food waste concerns, each of the Cobs locations donates their unsold products to local charities. Since 2003, Cobs has kept over $300 million worth of product out of landfills and instead helped those in need across the country.

Thank you to COBS Bread for your ongoing support of the clients who visit our centre and the families currently living in Julietta's Place! We are so grateful to be included in the COBS End of Day Giving Program.

SLEEVE THE STIGMA

The Sleeve the Stigma campaign is back for the month of May! This campaign is a Community Helpers Program initiative, which is an AHS suicide prevention training program.

When you purchase a coffee or hot beverage at a participating establishment, you will receive a coffee cup sleeve stamped with a positive mental health message. These messages remind Albertans that mental health challenges can impact anyone and that it's ok to seek help.

This year, coffee sleeves have been distributed to City Roast Coffee, Cafe Vero,Cafe Millenium, Stems Flowers & Cafe and Sunworks.

Show off your sleeve by posting #SleeveTheStigmaRedDeer on your social media accounts to continue the conversation around mental health.
