Letter from Volunteer Services

Dear Friends,

During these unpredictable and transitional times, where everyone is settling back to the groove of things, you have continued to support the Carter Burden Network in immeasurable ways. From providing your skills, to distributing nutritious meals to our older adults at our designated older adult centers daily; to providing telephone reassurance, shopping assistance and Friendly Visiting to our most vulnerable, and to facilitating custom in-person and virtual events that bring joy and kindness to our members – in all these amazing ways you have been an anchor to our mission delivery and we are sincerely grateful to you.

On behalf of the Carter Burden Network and our Volunteer Services department family, thank you all for your continued support and contributions to our programs. It takes a village to bring enjoyable and memorable experiences at our CBN sites to allow older adults to live in safety and age with dignity. It has been such a pleasure to connect with you all personally this year, in light of such an unpredictable time for many of us. Your willingness to give your time and service is greatly appreciated.

If you haven’t been able to volunteer this year, we hope that you will be able to do so soon! Your contributions in the past years have always been valuable to us and we look forward to your renewed support when feasible. Our centers are open, and our Volunteer Services Department looks forward to coordinating engaging volunteer events for individuals, groups and corporate service days.

May this year bring paying it forward, fun and love to the aging communities that we serve as part of a caring community.

Sincerely,

The Volunteer Services Department

National Volunteer Month

Each April we celebrate National Volunteer Month to shine a light on the amazing volunteers of CBN who make our mission possible. Our volunteers bring joy and genuine care to everything they do; whether it's providing meal service, hosting a class or special event, beatifying our gardens and more, our volunteers go above and beyond.

CBN thanks all of our amazing community, corporate, student, and individual volunteers, including our Board of Directors, Associates Council, and Teen Council, who help make CBN as amazing as it is - Happy National Volunteer Month!

GlamourGals Foundation's Manicures

The GlamourGals Foundation has been bringing a fun new service to members at our Older Adult Centers - free manicures! These events not only provide a fun spa day to our members, but facilitate intergenerational volunteering that leaves both our members and the teen volunteers with a new connection. Thank you to our GlamourGals volunteers, our members love their new nails!

Macquarie Beautifies Roosevelt Island's Garden

The volunteer team at Macquarie celebrated Spring and got some fresh air at our Roosevelt Island Older Adult Center! Volunteers helped out in the garden by pulling weeds, planting flowers, and cleaning the space. Afterwards, they served lunch to our members. Thank you to the team at Macquarie for beautifying our space!

Virtual Bingo with Angi

Carter Burden Network would like to thank the awesome volunteer team from Angi for their enthusiasm and hard work in hosting regular Virtual Bingo events for our members! Each event is filled with fun for both our members and the volunteers, and we appreciate Angi's efforts to continue hosting such fun events at our Centers. We're looking forward to the next one!

Associate's Council

CBN's Associates Council is a group of engaged young professionals dedicated to lending their talents, time and energy to benefit older adults as well as raise critical funds to support CBN's mission. As the organization's next generation of leaders and supporters, the Associates Council serves as advocates for CBN's crucial work combating isolation and loneliness, food insecurity, and serving older, vulnerable New Yorkers.

We have various volunteer leadership positions open in our Associates Council and encourage those that want to take their volunteering, professional aptitudes and leadership skills to the next level to apply.

If you are interested in joining the Carter Burden Network Associates Council or would like to learn more about the Associates' volunteer opportunities or social events, please click here or email Patricia Mays, Director of Development and Communications, at maysp@carterburdennetwork.org.
