Spring 2024
Dear MTL Community,

I hope you are enjoying the longer days, warmer weather, and the signs of spring around campus! Alongside our significant research initiatives, we have hosted various seminars, student gatherings, MIG member visits, workshops, and more. If you haven't yet had a chance, I hope you can join us for upcoming events including our Annual End of Year BBQ and Graduation events.

We've been fortunate to host distinguished speakers in our Spring MTL Seminar Series, including Mahla Poudineh, Sanjay Natarajan, Michael Dickey, Naveen Verma, Alan Smith, Matthijn Dekkers, and Ulrich L. Rohde. If you missed any in-person seminars, the recorded presentations are available here. We will wrap up our Spring Seminar Series next week with a panel discussion moderated by Prof. Ruonan Han on generative AI for microsystem design.

Congratulations to Atharva Sahasarabudhe, our Spring 2024 Doctoral Dissertation Seminar speaker. Atharva's PhD research focused on multi-material, multi-functional fibers for neurotechnology applications.

On April 17th, we paid tribute to our colleague and friend, Prof. Judy Hoyt, who sadly passed last year. It was a heartfelt gathering of past and present MTL community members in her memory.

The MIT Display Workshop on April 2nd was a success, featuring presentations from seven faculty members on cutting-edge display technologies. I extend my gratitude to Professor Jeehwan Kim for organizing this event and to all the students and postdoctoral researchers who participated in the poster session.
Looking ahead, I would like to remind you that we are now accepting abstracts for the 2024 Microsystems Annual Research Report. You can view all the information on the 2024 annual report here. Once you are ready to submit your abstract, you can do so here.

I am also excited to announce the upcoming MTL 40th Anniversary celebration, which will happen on November 20th, 2024 on campus. Please save the date in your calendars! We will be sending more information on the agenda very soon.

Sincerely,

Tomás Palacios
MTL Director
