What’s My Enrollment Time?

  • Check https://student.msu.edu > Classes > Enrollment Dates > Spring Semester 2025 to check your specific date and time to enroll for Spring 2025. You should see your appointment date and time under “Enrollment Appointments.”
  • NOT EVERYONE'S ENROLLMENT WILL BEGIN ON OCTOBER 28TH. You will receive more information about your specific enrollment date and time for Spring 2025 later this semester in early October

Image Description: An example of where to find your Enrollment appointment. The Enrollment Appointment Box should be the 2nd (or middle) box, in between your Shopping Cart Appointment and the Open Enrollment Dates by Session.

If you do not see “Enrollment Appointments,” please check back later in the semester. The Registrar’s Office will update this later in the Fall 2024 Semester.

Why are there 2 different enrollment dates and times?

Enrollment Appointment

  • The official first day and time you can start enrolling in Spring 2025

NOTE: The Enrollment Appointment is NOT the first date and time you’re required to meet with an advisor

  • You can discuss your Spring 2025 courses with an advisor before or after the start of your enrollment appointment

Open Enrollment Dates by Session

  • Free-for-all, anyone and everyone can enroll in classes now
  • Happens after all Enrollment Appointment dates have passed, starting on November 11th, 2024

So even after my Enrollment Appointment passed, can I still enroll during Open Enrollment?

  • Yes
  • Spring 2025 enrollment is open until the Spring 2025 add deadline

What should I do before my Spring 2025 Enrollment Appointment?

NOTE YOUR ENROLLMENT DATE AND TIME & PLAN YOUR SPRING 2025 CLASSES EARLY

  1. Meet with your academic advisor(s) BEFORE your scheduled enrollment date and time
  2. If you have previously met with your academic advisor, you can access the plan you made with them through your Confidential Messages Center at https://reg.msu.edu/StuForms/Stuinfo/Stuconfidential.aspx or https://student.msu.edu > Tasks.
  3. Make sure you resolve any holds off your student account that can prevent you from enrolling before you enrollment date and time
  4. Use the Shopping Cart (starting on September 11th) to plan, prepare, & validate your courses so you can enroll directly from your Shopping Cart once your enrollment date and time begins
  5. Note: You cannot enroll in courses that have time conflicts with each other
  6. Use the Class Exam & Calendar to view your weekly schedule with the classes you have in your Shopping Cart
  7. All courses in your Shopping Cart will appear on your Class Exam & Calendar in a yellow color

NOTE: If you have already meet with academic advising to talk about Spring 2025 classes, we kindly encourage you to reach out via email before scheduling another 30-minute advising appointment

What do the different dots on some classes mean?

Any classes with the grey dot indicating Waitlist or Closed: The class is currently only allowing students add themselves to the waitlist OR the class is completely closed without the waitlist on.

Any classes with the purple dot indicating Seat Reserves: Click on the class & check the Availability tab to see how many seats are reserved, who the seats are reserved for, and when the seat reserves start & expire

Any classes with the orange dot indicating Approval Required: You will need to submit an override/course permission request to the appropriate College or Department

Instructions on where to submit an override/course permission request should be noted in the Class Notes section, but see here for links for common override requests: https://physiology.natsci.msu.edu/academics/undergraduate/course-override-information/course-override-information.aspx

Summer 2025 Enrollment Information

Please connect with academic advising to further discuss summer class plans

Taking Summer Classes at MSU

  • Summer 2025 enrollment will open on November 18th
  • Although students can enroll as early as November, students will not receive a summer tuition bill until April 2025

Summer Semesters at MSU are divided up as follows:

  • Summer Session 1: 5/12-6/27
  • Summer Session 2: 7/1-8/15
  • Full Summer Session: 5/12-8/15

Summer financial aid information can be found at https://finaid.msu.edu/summer.asp & by contacting the Office of Financial Aid.

IN GENERAL TO GET SUMMER AID FOR MSU SUMMER CLASSES

Students need to have a FAFSA on file for the current academic year. Summer Semester is still counted as part of the current academic year.

Students must take at least 6 credits to qualify for any financial aid (e.g., loans, grants, scholarships), which is dependent on what they get from their FAFSA

Students will need to follow up with the Office of Financial Aid to determine if they would have any financial aid left for the 2024-2025 academic year for summer.

All financial aid questions must be directed to the Office of Financial Aid.

Taking Classes Elsewhere (other 4-year or 2-year institution)

For everyone planning to take classes at another 4-year university/college or community college (CC)

Check the other institution’s course catalog to confirm the course is being offered over the summer.

If you take them at another 4-year/community college, will need to check https://transfer.msu.edu to make sure the classes you take at a local CC will transfer back as the appropriate credit.

Make sure the equivalency does NOT expire on or before Summer 2025, or else the course will no longer transfer back to MSU as the appropriate credit until it is reevaluated.

Specifically for Michigan 4-year or 2-year Community Colleges

Students will also need to complete a Michigan Uniform Undergraduate Guest Application, which can be done here https://reg.msu.edu/ROInfo/EnrReg/GuestStatus.aspx

For MSU Students who wish to take courses at Lansing Community College

You do not need to fill out the Uniform Guest Application. Go directly to the LCC Application: http://www.lcc.edu/home/future_students/applynow/

For MSU students taking classes at an out-of-state institution

If you need a guest application for another institution, see https://reg.msu.edu/ROInfo/EnrReg/GuestStatus.aspx

What do I do once I'm done taking the class(es) elsewhere?

Once you finish the course(s) taken elsewhere, students must request official, final transcripts from the other institution to be sent to MSU (NOT your advisor) for the credits to be evaluated and posted. Students must earn grades of 2.0 (C) or higher in their courses to transfer back the credit. Only the credits transfer, NOT the grades. Electronic transcripts can be sent to: reg@msu.edu

How do I enroll in MSU classes again?

Will be using https://student.msu.edu > Classes to enroll.
