Mequon Police Department
Loses Valued K-9 Officer Djuke
| | |
| |
It is with great sadness that MTCF shares the news that K-9 Djuke of the Mequon Police Department (MPD) suddenly passed away on January 30, 2025. In Djuke’s four years on the force, he served as an ambassador for the Department making community appearances in addition to answering the call of duty over 600 times to assist with countless arrests, searches, and standoffs. K-9 Officer Djuke left quite a legacy and is sorely missed.
Officer Matt Bottoni, Djuke’s handler, realized his dream of being a K-9 handler in 2020 when he and DJuke hit the road together for the first time. After all the training, they were a team, partners until the end. As a tribute to Djuke, Officer Bottoni wrote a heartfelt memorial to commemorate Djuke’s time with the MPD, which can be found below.
| | |
Notwithstanding the loss of our beloved Djuke, we are pleased to announce that MTCF has received an anonymous donation of $16,000 to acquire a new K-9 officer to join K-9 Officer Yukon. MPD strives to maintain a two K-9 officer force to best serve the needs of Mequon-Thiensville and the surrounding communities, so they are especially grateful for this recent donation.
Please note that MTCF maintains a restricted fund to pay for all costs related to the MPD K-9 unit.
If you’d like to donate to help fund the ongoing training, equipment, and vet needs of the new K-9 Officer, go to www.mtcfgives.org/donate or click below.

Grantee Spotlight:
Pickleball in Mequon and Thiensville
| | |
The Thiensville-Mequon Pickleball Association (TMPA) is dedicated to fostering a community where pickleball can grow and thrive for players of all ages and skill levels. Its mission centers on promoting learning, friendly competition, social engagement and fun, all while emphasizing sportsmanship. TMPA also works to increase access to pickleball courts by collaborating with local government agencies and community leaders, ensuring the area has the resources necessary to support the sport’s growing popularity and meet the needs of area enthusiasts.
TMPA recently reached its fundraising goal for the pickleball courts at Thiensville Village Park, part of the Thiensville Village Park Reimagined project. Through a collaborative effort with the Village of Thiensville and the Mequon-Thiensville Community Foundation (MTCF), TMPA raised $416,000 to support this initiative. A completion date has tentatively been set for mid-summer.
Now, TMPA is focusing on the development of eight dedicated outdoor pickleball courts at the Range Line Community Center in partnership with the Mequon-Thiensville School District (MTSD) and MTCF. Once completed, this location will be the largest public outdoor pickleball facility of its kind in Ozaukee County. The MTSD Recreation Department has generously committed $300,000 to the project and is working with TMPA to raise an additional $75,000 to cover the remaining construction costs. Approximately $22,370 has been raised through MTCF to date, and if generous donations come forth to cover the remaining $53,000 this spring, the courts could be built this summer!
For more information, please contact John Rice, President of TMPA,
