We hope this newsletter finds everyone healthy and ready to leap into the spring sports season! Before we get to the spring sports, here are a few things happening in Lucas County. | |
On March 31, 2025 our very own Lisa Martin will be retiring from the Board of DD. Lisa has been a part of Special Olympics for the past 14 years and has been a Board staff member for 33 years.
Please join us for some cake and punch on Thursday, March 20 from 6-7:30pm at 1155 Larc Lane, Training Center, Door O, Toledo, Ohio to celebrate Lisa and wish her the best. She will be truly missed by all!

The weekend of March 7-9, Lucas County Special Olympics has 11 swimmers, 16 skills basketball players, a competition cheer team, and our D1 basketball team headed to the Ohio State University for the 2025 State Winter Games. We wish them all the best. GO LIGHTNING!
On February 3, two athletes from Lucas County Special Olympics, Beth Myers and Joshua Fondren, along with their unified partners, competed at the State Outdoor Winter Games that were held at Snow Trail in Mansfield, Ohio. Beth and her unified partner earned a silver medal in their Giant Slalom event and she was fourth in her individual Giant Slalom race. Joshua and his partner took fourth place in their unified race and Joshua took third in his individual race. Great job Beth and Joshua!

Please read the entire news letter before registering. If you are registering online, once you hit send, you will see a “Thank You for Registering” message on your screen. This means we have received your registration. We ask that you please do not call or email to ask if we received it.
Below is a description of each spring sport offered. Athletes can only register for one spring sport from the list, plus walking group if you wish.
| |
Calling all volleyball players! We will be offering modified volleyball (a bigger, softer ball is used) and traditional volleyball. If you decide to register for volleyball, you will receive information regarding a screening day once registration closes. Coaches and SO staff will determine after the screening process which team athletes will be assigned to, based on their skill level. **Please note, each volleyball team is only allowed 10 athletes. Unfortunately, some athletes may not make a team. Athletes who do not make a team will be able to choose another spring sport to participate in. **Practices for both modified and traditional will be on Wednesday evenings at Proclaim FM. Please note away games could be on different nights.

Tennis another sport that is growing! With that said, depending on the number of registrations, we may have to conduct a screening day this season.
Once signs ups are completed, we will send out more information.

This is a sport that has gained popularity over the past few years here in Lucas County! Bocce is one of our more relaxing yet competitive sports that fits any ability and age range! We have two artificial turf courts at our Larc Lane campus where we hold practices. Depending on how many sign up and how many volunteer coaches we have, we may have to limit how many teams we can have this season. Once registration closes, we will send out more information.
|
|
Track and Field is back! Interested in running, walking, or wheelchair events? Interested in shot put, mini javelin, long jump, or softball throw? You are in the right place! Track and field events are for any skill level and offers wheelchair events as well. We are looking at Tuesday/Thursday practices this year at Bowsher High School. Please note, this still needs to be confirmed as the school is still completing their schedule. Once registration closes, we will send out finalized information.
|
| |
Looking for something more relaxing and not competitive? Then walking group is for you! This is a bonus activity that anyone can join! You can be registered for another sport and still be in our walking group (as long as it does not interfere with other practices). Once registration closes, location and times will be sent out. |
